Ah, okay, it's a cultural reference to American History: The Pony Express.

Back in the 'Wild West' days of American expansion, before the railroad and telegraph had gone up across the Western territories (now states),
they ran a relay of horses and riders across the land in order to deliver
news and mail. It was referred to as the Pony Express. The Pony
Express Rider is as big a figure in American Folklore as the Gunfighters
and the Lawmen.

Sorry. :(

Sometimes I forget I've got an international audience. :D

And for those who care (...sound of crickets in the distance...now THERE'S a reference to explain to Overseer!), the TRAVELLER reference is that at the dawn of the Third Imperium, the Scout Service was set up to relay information by jump-shuttle since no form of transport was faster than starships, and someone remembered the ancient Pony Express and suggested that as a symbol for the new service.

The problem was, Earth had mingled with many other cultures by that point, and the best the government graphic artists could come up with was a picture of a Poni, a large lizard from a fairly obscure planet that was used as a pack beast. So the emblem of the IISS was a human riding this enormous lumbering thing kinda like a dwarf brontosaurus, hell bent for leather.

Hokay I'm-a shot op.

Ah! I see. Thanx for the explanation! But, darn, we have two very talented artists here (besides from Kellog), a... euhm... poetist (is that even a word?), and now we have a great historian as well! I'm starting to get intimidated here! Well, perhaps something that lies within my interests will show up sometime... stuff I can brag about :P

I think that "poet" is the word you seek.
To many, poetry could well be Greek.
But it's a form I happen to enjoy.
A word, to me, is weapon, tool and toy.

We each have aspects that make us unique.
Fret not, and do not hesitate to speak!
There's room here for all, every girl and boy.
(And fox, and dragon, and... you see my ploy.)

I hesitate to point out all our friends
For fear of missing some. To make amends
I'll point out only that the talents here.
Are very large, and friends are very dear.

Ah! I've been watching for an example of your poetry.(watching or waiting)

Finally got to see what I merely had heard(er, read) of. :)

I am not sure how to represent 1 kilobap in the confines of this message board.

I do not think that it would overmuch entertain my fellow posters to do so literally, one @bap at a time.

So imagine, if you will, =replicate(1024, "@bap,") and you've got it.

Cool, we can pseudo bap Scott in pseudo code now! Phear the Power!!! :)

Ahh, Excellent, another forum-ite with a literary bent is a most welcome event indeed!

I bend most of my words, some may say I bend them to breaking, on my <a href="mako.livejournal.com"> Live Journal blog</a> as do many others here, Scott and Levelhead included.

Do you have any of your own work on the web anywhere by any chance? I would love to check it out if you do...

Olic - LH has posted a lot of stuff here previously, as well as on several other web comic forums, Freefall and Albion Fuzz predominately.

LH - Me thinks you need a single portal page somewhere with either direct links to your pentameter work in-situ for context preservation or copied on the site itself. What say you to this proposition? Perhaps LJ can be stretched to perfom this function in a logical manner somehow?

Thanks!
Mako

The webcomic Never Never, by The Gneech (who also is the author of The Suburban Jungle) appointed me to this office. I instigated and sponsored a trivia contest which wound up being quite a to-do over there. The link is below the mention of this title in my prior post. Or, go to
http://www.Mopsy.com and look for the contest on the front page.

Poetry, hmm? Well, for 21st Century Fox and other odds and ends, try:
http://www.planetfurry.com/%7Emjriv/Furry_Poetry1.html
http://pub68.ezboard.com/f21stcenturyfo ... D=10.topic

(and halfway down)
http://pub68.ezboard.com/f21stcenturyfo ... D=17.topic
(down a few from the top).

Other strips:
Freefall poetry:
http://nice.purrsia.com/cgi-bin/ultimat ... 1&t=000470

A tribute to Albion Fuzz:
viewtopic.php?t=42354

And Gene Catlow:
(Poetic bantering...)
http://pub65.ezboard.com/fgenecatlowfrm ... D=85.topic

Gene Catlow and I go a round or two:
http://pub65.ezboard.com/fgenecatlowfrm ... D=45.topic

and Gene Catlow's lady CatsWhisker:
http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml ... itemid=458

Now, most folks can't stand this stuff. And you will have had a belly-full after this, no doubt. But you did ask. ;)

(Edit: hmm. some busted links...)

Mako, your idea is a good one. Perhaps on the EZboard?

As long as the EZ Board posting is editable over time, that would work just fine. Sure would be easy to just blast the portal url to people who are interested in your work. It will definitely be on my Bookmarks list too.

I do recommend a local backup of both the gateway post and the iambic posts themselves however, the web being a bit "dynamic" in nature. and all...

Let me see if I understand you correctly. You intend to wash the Evil out of someone by using the Ultimate Evil? Am I understanding you correctly?
