Back in the 'Wild West' days of American expansion, before the railroad and telegraph had gone up across the Western territories (now states),
they ran a relay of horses and riders across the land in order to deliver
news and mail. It was referred to as the Pony Express. The Pony
Express Rider is as big a figure in American Folklore as the Gunfighters
and the Lawmen.
