Mark Wahlberg is Marky Mark, of funky bunch fame
He's recently switched over from producing bad music to doing mediocre, yet cute, acting.
He's not uber-famous, but he's not unknown. Thus the comparison to boxjam's doodle. A fair number of people read boxjam on a daily basis. If you don't wanna do the gruntwork of checking every single link in the menu, I could do that and provide a list of those comics that are dead, and those that are far too alive, to be on the losers dropdown.
I mean, I've looked at a couple, and they don't even have the dropdown on their site anywhere anymore.

Okay, so what constitutes "unpopular"? I mean, my comic constitutes about 0.09% of Keenspace's traffic, which doesn't seem like much... is it an "unpopular" comic?

Well, I guess any sort of cut-off has to be ultimately arbitrary. Does 50 regular readers sound reasonable to anyone? That is: once your site logs are showing a consistent update-day average of, say, 75 or so visits (as opposed to hits), you've probably got at least 50 regular readers. I don't think you're a loser any more at that point. Maybe not a winner, but definitely not a loser.
Sign me up!
But, if all of these comics are unpopular, how will word get out, Hmmm? :p

(x - q) / fmv = Loser
Well, hang on.. What about the non-update-days? Supposing a comic is updated one day every week, but the daily visits are relatively consistant throughout the week? (I dunno.. maybe the readers don't use calendars or something..) I think this might be a bit more difficult to determine than you originally anticipated.. Non-update-days should be taken into consideration, but what about outliers? Say a person has a consistent update-day average of 75.. then one update-day they get 1 visit. What do we make of that? Additionally, there is no single aspect of the weblogs that is perfectly accurate. Although visits may be considered "most accurate" I have friends who have figured out how to mess with that figure as well. The other figures (Hits, KBytes, Pages, Files) should be taken into account too. My hits are deceptively high, because they go up everytime someone sees this dropdown. If we factor in daily and hourly statistics, as well as the individual hostnames responsible for them, the equasion could become really really big!DoneDirtCheap wrote:once your site logs are showing a consistent update-day average of, say, 75 or so visits (as opposed to hits), you've probably got at least 50 regular readers.

(equasion) + string = Loser
We should also find a way to work search strings into it.. I like search strings...

Jester: the gnomes, of course.
Although that's actually a straw man. All the popular people remove this dropdown from their front site.
Okk: you're making it more complicated than it is. We don't actually need an accurate count of regular readers. All we need is a criteria which, when met, indicates that the person has a decent-sized population of regular readers. if you have a consistent update-day average of 75 visits, then you've probably got at least 50 readers. If you've got more, then you've got more, good for you. If you get an update day with only one visit, then, well, it's not consistent, is it?
The search string will be, of course "britney underaged hot newt college thermos".

Huh?
I have a feeling that's an actual search string from your logs.
Anyway, I'll think about criteria, maybe, and send out my black ops agents to weed out the populars. I would like to know who's on the dropdown, but does not have the dropdown on their site.. but I'm too busy and/or lazy to look into that for myself.

Destroy all of civilization
Aww, come on. I'm a busy guy. I'm a full time college student with two (or something) online comics that won't draw themselves... I maintain this dropdown... by adding new members sometimes... but sometimes I have trouble finding their email addresses so I can inform them of their addition. That always sucks.. Also, I haven't beaten FF Tactics yet. And I have the gall to call myself a Squarehead?
hmm.. maybe i should be doing homework or something...

Question
Um I was curious if I could join the dropdown? Or are you not taking anymore people?
Kawaii girls, killing machines, space and Love gurus... does one need anything more?

I'd like to try to get more people reading my comic.
