Jones mentions the "Reds" in panel 3. He's talking about the Soviets and not the Taliban.
Or maybe he just really hates Cincinatti.

Yes.
As you can probably tell by today's installment, we're in a whole 'nother world here. The fact that many people could NOT tell this from the first strip... which pretty much OUTLAWS such works as 1984, BRAVE NEW WORLD, ANIMAL FARM, STAR TREK, BABYLON 5, STAR WARS, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND, and GATTACA, just to name some off the top of my head... the fact that people considered this a plausible extrapolation of OUR world is definitely, uhhhm, food for thought.

Definitely a different world; in the FAANS! world, Jones would *never* have been so public. He was fretting about his visibility
Oddly enough, what comes to mind for me is the 'Days of Future Past' story arc from X-Men (even moreso than The Terminator, or any other prior story of that sort). Somehow, the people of this world are going to get in touch with those of the FAANiverse... or do they? I'm not about to try to second-guess T, as that is just too obvious a move. All we can do is wait.
Interesting that Thack is... here. He seems almost a beaten man, as does Rikk. Not that Rumi and Rikk are together, and Thack seems to be with Stephanie.
And notice, too, who is missing: Tim, Will, Kath, Guthrie, Shanna, all the ones who would have been taken away long ago, or else been co-opted already. The one reading may or may not be the Storyteller from the Vampire game, but I'm not sure.
Note that Shanna would not have been co-opted, I think... there's been hints along the way that FIB fear her for more than just being a journalist. I have the sneaking suspicion that Shanna's going to turn out to be, potentially, one hell of a powerful adept - if she ever let's herself be.
------------------

But, as was joked about before this new storyline arose, they can't have an alternate universe without unconvincing goatees! Perhaps T will stick that in somewhere.
Ah, Rick and Rumi together. Not as satisfying as Rikk and Rumy, but you can't win them all. (Though I'd never support the latter while Alisin still exists in her present state.)
Nullset out.

An alternate world?
A whole different group where Thack is a good guy and Jones is cracking down.
Different spellings of names?
Hmmmmmm...........where have I seen this before.....[url=http://www.geocities.com/tee-moss/Swank ... ated1.html]hhhhhmmmmmmm[/a].......

Master T, sir, with all due respect, may I say that you are demonically evil, and should either be crowned Poet Laureate (or whatever the webcomic equivalent is) or driven out of the Internet by a mob wielding torches and pitchforks. Or perhaps both.
Well, Frankenstein was a Doctor.
T was already logged in the league of evil webcomic authors last year. He's in good company............in an evil sorta way.
Anyway with the thing called "Time of War" and all I'm just waiting for the battlelines to be drawn. It LOOKS like it'll be the old fandom vs government but I have my doubts. After all, we still don't know how different this world is from Fans Prime.
Heh heh, Prime. So this would be Fans2?
We should've had this worked out during Auxilerated. There were three dimensions there right?
Mr Rikk vs the New Jones!
There's a grudge match!
