Comic sizing/specifications/other

Post by Blackaby »

Sizing
The comic must be 500 across & Another number no more than 720, and preferably closer to 650, in width.

Colour
Full stinking colour!
Please select a pallet rather than colouring everything randomly as neon hurtses our eyeses.

Characters
Blackaby doesn't have a nose, no matter how he is drawn.
The Angel does not shave her legs.
Character costumes change dependent on the historical period, but the general rule of thumb is that Blackaby is rarely fashionable.
No matter what colours you use for the rest, please stick to the current colour pallet for the actual characters, unless the script requires something different.
If you want a better reference, the comic is usually a few months ahead of itself, so you can have access to the current archive of Blackaby if you desire it.

Script Length
Scripts are usually 8 pages PLUS a cover illustration which is really up to YOU.

Uh, post any offers of guest arting just about anywhere :)

PLEASE USE THE FORUM TO UPDATE ME ON WHAT'S GOING ON BECAUSE MY PM BOX KEEPS GETTING BACKED UP WITH ME EFFING ABOUT MAILING PEOPLE AND THINGS

What I write is usually rubbish so cut/alter whatever you want or just send it back to me for a rewrite. I'm not great at this & since you're all artists and writers You Know Best. :) I also don't know how to plan out a page or do layout so yes... do ignore my bad attempts to "panel things out".

If you wanna add something/joke/person/whatever, please go for it. :)

Generally the comic size has to be the same as the comics that are up there at present, so that's what - 500xsomething else...
How modest. :P
The page currently up today is 500 x 620 pixels.
The first page was 500 x 670, the one after that 500 x 672, 665, 698, and so on.

I hadn't noticed this before, but there is a bit of a problem now. Unfortunately the pages I've been making are 500 x 721 which is the size of the cover page on "The Fisherman" story line. I guess that was the only page I bothred to check when you asked me to make them the same size at whats already on there and I just figured they'd all be the same. I should have taken a greater sample range.

Now off topic of blackaby:

Regular comic books seem to mostly be 6.625 x 10.25 U.S. inches.
The ratio of that is 0.64634146341463414634146341463415 to 1.

So for my own comics I've been using a final screen dimension of 530 x 820 which matches the above ratio exactly. And for the raw raster files I use 2650 x 4100, which also matches the ratio so there's no distortion in resizing (it's also a 400 dpi version of the original size in inches).

Just in case anyone was wondering

PS: You must write a story where blackaby becomes human and gets a nose for once just so someone can have the pleasure of drawing it.

Eh, so long as they're the same across the top and within a 100 range of the height, it's cool. I guess I can work out the whole sizing etc later.

By the way, make yourself a thread... I noticed I'd effed up some of the dialogue on the comic you showed me.... because I suck. Sorry. :(

I guess after the REVELATION he could get a nose. That'd be fun.

Mine seem to be uniform in their dimensions so far, but I may start to have trouble with that in the strips with more panels.

Do you want us to handle the lettering, or just the art?

Works for me, is there a specific font for Blackaby?

Nope. Something that's readable and not a regular font - ie not comic sans or TNR or the like... works fine for me. I use Lettermatic (I think) in the new comics and Cosmic in the earlier ones... and I've no idea what Ken Klaus used in his.

Readibility is the main thing. So... whatever suits the comic... :)

Wait a minute, are you actually asking for people to draw your kickass comic? That's so cool! Are the puppies alive?

Blackaby is F-ing genius. I've never been good with colour though. And I don't have time. Can I be your artist anyway? *grin*
