my vote is Midsummer, with Much Ado a very very close second

I remember seeing an awesome rendition of Comedy of Errors on PBS many many years ago. The only other one I really like at all is MacBeth.

Hamlet! But I like Julius Caesar (and Othello) lots too. Anything where everyone dies and there's lots of dudes for whom I can look for slashy subtext.

forgive me dear lady, i am eternally sorry and shamed.
i haven't read that one so i didnt know whether to include it or not, but im sure it's good since with shakespeare most are good (except for the terrible rendition i saw of macbeth...)

It's sad but I've always hated Shakespeare, I just find wading through that dialogue impossible.

Midsummer night's dream for me, just because i took part in a rendition of it back in 6th grade.

And I played Bottom the weaver, the guy who gets turned into a donkey. I was called Donkey boy for the rest of my middle school years.

I still enjoy the play though.

Murder, mutilation, rape, cannibalism, insanity, human sacrifice, people being burried alive... that play has everything!

Ah, well. Out of the choices given, I'll have to vote for Much Ado or Shrew. Although I'll always be fond of the Tempest because I played Miranda in it when I was 11 at the Folger Theatre.

All I assoicate Shakespeare with anyway is pain. The pain of going to school and being forced to read that stuff..... yeeesh. I probably wouldn't be so much against it if I hadn't been forced to read that stuff though.

Macbeth is delightfully gory, but Hamlet has the whole "avenging father's murder" thing going for it. I think it has the better plot. But I voted for Macbeth simply because of Lady Macbeth. She's such a manipulative bitch.

Macbeth was good, but Hamlet gave us Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

I played Flute the Bellows-mender in my high-school's production. (I'm not saying what he does in the play. You wanna know, read it

The guy who played Bottom in our version got a lot of "ass" jokes too. Not least because he's very heavily Republican, and everyone knews it.

And just to give some perspective to those familiar with Midsummer's... I'm a big, heavy-set guy, and they (our director and costumer) gave me a fake beard. That I still had on during the final scene.

I voted Hamlet, mostly for the monologue, which I love, and also for Ophelia's thing with the flowers... also fond of Midsummer Night's Dream, especially Puck... have seen some very good versions of that play... one where the forest was represented by lightbulbs on very long wires (weird but effective) an open air one done by school children that had them all running around blowing bubbles at one point... by candle light... it really was a great way of making the setting feel magical... also have seen Puck played by a woman... that works well.
I love the Leornado Di'Caprio version of Romeo and Juliet... I mean Mercutio in that... fantastic...
And why isn't Twelth Night on the list? That's pretty good too shipwrecks and crossdressing and investigation of alternate sexuality and stuff...
As you can tell I like Shakespeare... I ended up doing a module on his plays to satisfy the cross-discipline requirement of my degree (can't remember why I picked it... probably it looked easy) but ended up with loving it... probably mostly because of my tutor, who was rebelious, gothic and cool.
