Discussion thread for Webcomic Above
Webcomic Above was getting too confusing. Everybody, including me, wants to talk about their reviews/other reviews here, but either they muddied up the thread or kept silent.
If you wanna talk about your review, do it here.

i ummm.... do not like the reviews that i recieved. i think that the critiques were all sophmoric at best. and.. ummm... yeah, actually no problems with the reviews that i got. They were well done and objective. Kudos! But good idea with this thread. It was starting to look like a drunken sailor reunion in there.
and i reviewed your comic. have you considered PMing. that's what i did with some of the people that reviewed me.

1600! Elizabethan!
I was very disappointed with my review. The individual in question really dropped the ball, IMHO.

I didn't post in that thread. My self-esteem is too fragile for reviews. Like glass. Hollywood sugar glass.

Then the fact I'm planning on reviewing your comic in the future (probably in a week or so) is a bad thing?
Tsk. I'm not cruel or anything... I'm generally positive.
Except toward Scott Kurtz, because he's evil.
(I'm joking. He's actually more of a Neutral with Chaotic tendencies...)

But my webcomic hasn't even started making sense yet. =(Tangent wrote:Then the fact I'm planning on reviewing your comic in the future (probably in a week or so) is a bad thing?

I had planned to ask for reviews on its first birthday, because by then, people would finally fully understand what's going on.
Oh well.

Well, the thing is... I know what it's like for a starting cartoonist. I was there once.
So sending more people your way earlier is a good thing. Besides... it's kind of interesting, and I have a little bit of an idea of what's going on. Sure, I might wish it updated more frequently, but even so, I've a grasp of a storyline here.
Not to mention I like your comic. And reviewing new webcomics is a good thing for me, instead of talking about Narbonic or Shlock Mercenary or CRfH every other week.
BTW, -Rain-, your comic looks rather interesting and has a promising start to it. I look forward to more updates and reviewing it as well when I've enough of an idea to do a review.
Take care!

Hmmmm, not a bad little review from Ryuko...heh, and she seemed to like the comic which is always a plus. I'm glad to see she liked my work with the greyscale stuff...that was one aspect of the comic I wasn't sure if I was doing well enough.
My only question would be, how is my site badly organized exactly? Not that I'm offended by the criticism or anything, just looking to see how things could be improved.

I sent a reply to radewagon concerning his own review of my little pile of quiet madness cos I really appreciated the way he approched it. I don't know if I actually won him over as a regular reader or not, and no worries if I didn't, but he seemed to have picked up perfectly on what I was aiming for to give to the readers.
Even the bits he told me off for where done well!
Top job.

A thread for discussion of Webcomic Above is not necessary at all if people follow my guidelines. It's either that or have the thread die prematurely due to mess and confusion.
Now, if you really want to know what I think, here's the deal:
Webcomic Above is a fun game, but should be taken seriously. It's an exercise for those who know not to review and criticize just as it is a way to get a nice review so you can know what works about our comic and what doesn't. Having other people read the review you passed instead of just only the reviewee is also crucial, because this is also a way to get word about your comic out.
The problem with this is when people join in just for ego validation. And here's why: if you are joining just because you want to hear nice things about your work, then it means you will be giving the lamest reviews possible to get it out of the way as quickly as possible. I saw some people doing this on the last thread. If you do shitty reviews, then the person next to you wouldn't feel encouraged to give a nice review because he saw that you could get reviewed without REALLY reviewing. Can you see where this is going?
Also, the fact that people do not wait for the placeholders to be ready make it worse. How compelled to finish a review would you be if you were doing this just to get a review and you got one before giving yours? Now, how compelled would you be if that review you got was shitty?
I could not join Webcomic Above because I see multiple review chains, and it's all so confusing I'm afraid I'd end up making things worse.
One could think what I just said is state the obvious, but I dunno. I had to vent it out. I love you guys lots, but it annoys me that you seem to become stupid the moment you touch this game!

I am always surprised to see to which extent people are able to miss the whole idea and review a comic that has already been reviewed or an occasional poster or something else. Also, whenever I see someone posting a few lines of review just to get it off his back, I die a little inside.
If you want, we can movie the thread to "junk" where I can keep an eye on it and try to keep it in order.
