I was wondering if a fellow cartoonist or two would like to organize a Bikini Summer/Ice Breaker-like thing for New Year's Eve/ Holidays. I figure there will be a lot of holidays-related comics and we could do as done before. E-mail me at maricks@comic.com or post a reply if interested.
------------------

Ok, so Me, Gecco, Matt Trepal, joshaua_w, and Seven3 will organize the Keenspace New Year's Eve Party 2000. We can arrange it with whoever plans on having new-years related comics (Including me... beware the Y2K1 Bug) and we can put a likk to them on the main page. Then whoever wants to be a part of this (including the people who aren't organizing it) can make a week-long or however long series of comics (if they don't mind the trouble) or a mini-poster/scene of their characters at a party with other characters. You don't even need to make the comic part of your storylines, you can do some seperate. I hope we can get Keenspace's support. If you want to help us organize this, submit comics, or anything else, reply here. I don't know exactly how we'll do this, but we will!
------------------

I wasn't planning on _running_ it, but what the hey. I'm game. Anybody know how the Icebreaker was organized?
I was just planning on doing a single-panel pic, not a strip or series. I've scripted FCE way out in advance (although a randomly-inserted strip isn't a bad thing), and with only two strips per week a series takes a while to develop.
My orginal idea when I posted the party thing was sort of like a swap. You take some of your characters and some of someone else's, and go from there. Wacky scenes from the punchbowl/bar, the dance floor, the hot tub (hey, it's a New Year's Eve party; this stuff happens!), etc.
I guess we'd need to know who's interested in letting their characters be abused by others. And I mean abused in the most positive connotation of the word. Should this message go out to the egroup?
------------------

It'll be set up like IceBreaker. Pics of everyone who joined down the sides and the info down the middle. Now we just gotta' find out how they made it.
------------------

Sporkman set up the whole Icebreaker shindig with (I think) Nate and Sandy. ::squints:: It seems like so long ago.
I'd beware the notion of having all the characters mix at a party though. The logistics of that would be a nightmare. Let's just say it would be safer to make it New Year's Eve, 2001.
------------------
For reference, I'm probably not in "happy face mood" when writing this but I always forget to change the button. Not this sign, though. NERDZ

Of course, I wasn't going to have any sort of holiday strip normally, so....
Ah, well. We'll work something out, I'm sure.
------------------

I want in! It sounds like a great idea, but I think it be better if we had it like the Summer Bikini Fest thingy. We all simply make a couple of portraits of our characters in the spirit of the season type of picture and have them posted at the same page.
All we gotta do know is get the higher ups involved/notified of the little idea.
-Caster
------------------

Heyo...just for clarification - Sandy and I organized the Ice Breaker. I did all the heavy HTML, while she created the basic templates for it. Later on, when I started to get busy, Rob from NEQ picked up the slack and posted the last couple of updates. You should really be coordinated with your partners I think. Don't turn it into an almost one man operation (during which I almost killed myself). Personally, I think changing your concept to pin-ups right now is old hat. You want to go from the super-cool New Year's Party idea to...winter pin-ups? Uh, yeah, sure...
------------------

Now, wait, John. I actually get to speak from experience here. Do you remember the HUGE conversation we had about making the Icebreaker like Pulp Fiction BUT... and all sorts of zany ideas. It's even harder to do now than when there were <100 comics because Keenspace has grown by such leaps and bounds.
And should I call you John or Sporkman?
You know what I think would be good for the New Year's? Resolutions. Just a stupid thought.

quote:
Originally posted by John T:

How about characters mixing/mingling at a real New Year's Eve party? There's some potential there, I think.
------------------

That would be cool. And during Christmas/New Years I'll have access to my old scanner, and a computer old enough for it to work with. It'll help allay my comic withdrawl.
I like the idea of all the characters interacting at a New Year's party. For once, my characters might actually be the normal ones.
--jwh
------------------

Woo... lot of posts. Ok, I can handle updating if we have reasonable amount of stuff. If 100 members sign up, we're screwed. John, if you want to help us out here that'd be great. I think we should hold the number of comics we kind of feature (whatever we are going to do) to about 40. That's a good number. Any ideas?
------------------

I already signed up to help, right? Cause I'm helping, wehther you guys like it or not. Except with html, I suck at that.
We should probably split up all the jobs between everyone who is helping. Like maybe get a small group of people who are in charge of the whole thing, get everyone one or two jobs and then all work together like that. It'll be more orgnaized that way.
------------------

Yeah, limiting sounds good. How many strips are regularly updated vs. spaces assigned? How many strips on on the dropdown list?
Anyway, we've got to make some decisions soon as to ultimate format, due date, and such or else this will never get done. I'll leave it to you folks, since I'm going to be away most of this weekend. I'll go along with whatever's decided, but for the record I like either my "assignment" idea or Seven3's "chunk" idea.
I'll try and check back before Sunday night.
I ask again: Should this go out to the egroup, or do you think enough people read the forums?

------------------

Enough people read the forums. If we get the e-group into this, it'll go out-of-control and we'll probably all die...
------------------
