Eunice's line art is so good I could dump a bucket of puke green paint on it and it'd still look good.

I seem to be the only one on this now.

this is how I colored it. For some reason I thought it cool to have a cheesy B&W BG. I don't think it's that cool anymore.

Just to let you know... her head is a little big. Her middle finger should be a little taller than her pointer finger.

I'm sorry! I just had to say that...

We can't show up your evilness. At least, not until you post again. And as for the background, the b&w was a very good idea, it just needs to be a SOLID black and white image.

Seriously I hardly color backgrounds. Most of the time, I do a plenty of character coloring. But the result shown here for my background is far too different from the original sample of the background drawing I had refer to.

Oh well.

Here's another coloring practice. The lineart is taken from a professional.

How does every one (meaning good artists) Get there linear art to be solid B&W and all smooth? My tab makes it all wavy, and using too much curve lining messes it up.

If you ink over your lines with super black india ink on cardstock that is white and not off-white It's really easy to get rid off everything not close enough to black in photoshop. I scan as greyscale then adjust the levels to lower the requirements for white and black, then I set the magic wand's tolerance to something like 75 or higher and then select the whitest area I can find. Delete and you should have super crisp lines.

Case in point: http://sgsb.keenspace.com/d/20050221.html

crap I should probably update
I remember caring... It was nice.

Or you can go Image>adjust>threshold

Or just use the rightmost slider in Levels and move it leftt.

I have a Photoshop question... does PS have any single pixel line options? My lines are really thin and for the life of me I can't find a way to make lines <.035cm

I just want to close the cells so I can color them, but I don't necessary want to add visible lines. I know I could use blue lines or something, but I don't want to make my life any more complicated.

Also, are there any really tankin' palletes that are light and simple? When I look at the color box options in PS, my brain starts to hurt.

Right now I still use ye olde Appleworks for coloring (I still like that old program) but sometimes it gives me errors. Like removing a third of my comic after I save. :x

Anyway, thanks allyas!

I'm not sure what you're asking. If you use the brush tool, select a brush that's 1 pixel wide. If you also have a tablet, set the brush Shape Dynamics to 'Pen Pressure'. (With the brush tool selected, select from the menu 'Windows->Brushes'. Or hit the little options icon to the right of the brush settings.) This doesn't exactly draw a line that's less than 1 pixel wide -- what it will do is pretend the line is less than 1 pixel wide, and so it will antialias that pretend line into one or two faint 1 pixel lines. This applies to the line tool also if you select the 'Anti-Alias' option.

If you want to genuinely draw a line that's less than 1 pixel wide, you need to either draw at much higher resolution than your finished image will be (you should be doing this anyway) or use a vector program like Illustrator or Flash.
I just want to close the cells so I can color them, but I don't necessary want to add visible lines. I know I could use blue lines or something, but I don't want to make my life any more complicated.
Close the cells with the color you want to fill them with. Any other lines will be visible. I'm not fond of the fill tool in any case; I prefer creating a new layer set to multiply and painting in fill colors. (You could also set your line drawing to multiply and paint the fill colors in a layer underneath.)
Also, are there any really tankin' palletes that are light and simple? When I look at the color box options in PS, my brain starts to hurt.
You mean the Swatches window? There are lots of premade pallettes available. Best if you make your own pallette. Just select a color and then choose 'New Swatch'. Before building your own pallette, go into the Preset Manager and delete all the existing swatches. Then when you have a new set of swatches, you can save them so they won't get lost.

WHAT A COOL THREAD. And Bluebug's taking some names, I see -- holy geez!

I don't have time for coloring this week, but I can share some lineart. It's the most recent illustration I've done that looks somewhat polished. Unfortunately, it's fanart - I wish I had something more recent and in my own 'style.' Anyway, the original size is 1700 pixels wide. Let me know if you want it.

A technique of mine (which err...doesn't work as well as the other guys) goes as follows:

1.) Scan lineart;
2.) Create a duplicate layer of it on top of the Background layer;
3.) Set the duplicate layer to "Hard Light";
4.) Gaussian Blur the duplicate layer - 50px does the job;
5.) Set opacity to your liking;

It's pretty weird, but in the end it looks much more bettah than the original. HOpe this helps.
