I did some concept art for my new comic series today working on set and character designs a bit more, trying out something different with the coffee painting.

I'm going to try to work on some storyboards tomorrow.

Looks good, I like her facial expression better in this pic.

I love the background you have there, I'm too lazy to draw that part

But the retro look is neat... like the 21st century as envisioned in the 1950s.

The vacuum tubes, analogue meters and knife switches give it a very '40s serial hi tech look. The coffee effect is remniscent of old sepia-tone photographs. If the story is even half as good as the art, this is gonna rock.

Is that Peep on the booklet she's holding?

It almost looks like she's leaning over to her right as she walks, but that's probably just me. I think I'm starting to get a feel for Polly's mood from the two pictures so far.

And the wiring looks like something I would have done.

A real Lo-Tek look. Either that, or it's russian engineering at its finest (have actually seen several hundred feet of wire coiled up inside a mainframe to serve as a delay...this explains a lot about some of the mishaps with the soviet space program).

Heh. All that wiring just reminded me of something: one of the old MIT guys told me that when they still used mercury tube delays, they could use an AM radio to debug programs. They'd sit it next to the machine and listen to the blips and blaps of static on the radio. It made a predictable pattern when the program was running like it should. And when it wasn't, they often caught the error using this method much faster than any other way. This came up when I set my ham radio HT next to a PC with an open case and found out we could identify the I/O bus reads by sound. Which means even that was a long time ago, since I let my license expire...

Yes, that's her PeePDA. All three of her computing devices (two laptops, one PDA) have GGC characters drawn on them.

Loving the wires, even kewler than the 40's scifi sea of dials and readouts.

Hating the shoes. She needs something better than Mickey Mouse shoes. Like maybe bobos with the laces always absent-mindedly trailing along or something. Something better than Mickey Mouse.

Hey, she's still a girl and even tomboy techo-geek girls gotta take some pride in their shoes. Just a different kind of pride that's all...
