The thing that bothers me is that St. Helens NEVER blows up alone; another volcano goes up too. Last time it was El Chichonal, in southern M
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.
Um... coincidence?

I assume that this is a prediction about when the "big" eruption happens, because the mountain's sending off (comparatively) small blasts all the time now. I say next week sometime... the 13th.
Since I live just up the road from MSH, I'll give whatever first-hand confirmation that I can. I've still got my official Volcanic Ash Scale from the 1980 eruption, so I'm fully prepared!

It's more likely to blow than the one up here that's been rumbling. Maybe a local Webcomicker down there will also save the day

Even though no one will believe Brosnan until the very last moment and Jones - though being a natural disaster emergency expert - will not be able to recognize lava when he sees it.Dutch! wrote:Don't worry...I'm sure Pierce Brosnan or Tommy Lee Jones will turn up and sort it all out...

Being that I'm a geology student currently in a volcanology class, the possibilty of a "large" eruption are about 50/50 because predicting whether a volcano is going to blow is ulimately decided by the volcano itself. And since good info seems to be circulating, if/when the volcano begins to display textbook signs signifying a large explosion, word should get out soon enough. Some volcanoes have cycles of eruptions, and I'm not sure about all of Mt. Saint Helens history going back in time further than the 1980 eruption.
The most dangerous thing about the 1980 eruption was the massive mudslide and PDC surges that issued forth from the volcano. So when the authorities establish safety zones, I hope that people will abide by them.
Mt. Vesuvius is one volcano that disturbs me since the area around it is heavily populated. If it chose to erupt...it would be a very bad thing. Not to mention the fun brewing in Yellowstone Park
