Unlikely referrers

Post by Axonite »

Occasionally I've had referrers appear on my site statistics that didn't really have a link to Station V3 - or at least none that I could see. Sometimes it's a site that could possibly have a link (but doesn't), and sometimes it's something very unlikely.

From last month, and falling into the 'very unlikely' category: http://www.johnkerry.com

The strangest one I got this month was from the "weather report" page at a local TV station's site:

http://www.komotv.com/weather/planner.asp

I figure one of my "real life" fans must have triggered it somehow while browsing.

I got a strange one:

http://p203.ezboard.com/ftruechristiansunitefrm1

I can't find the link to my page anywhere, and they're bloody scary. They're offensively christian Bish supporters who think that the Bible is leteral and Ronald Regan was the greatest president ever. They need help, and fast, but I just need away from them.

Also, this:

I don't know why but that place has been giving me referrals for the past two months, it's not a proper domain and I can't seem to find out anything else about it.

XXXX:+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I also got that...thing as a referrer on my old comic in it's second month. Don't know what it is but for some reason I think it's perverted.

Not entirely out of the park - but still a little bit out in left field - was a referral I got from the Graphic Smash main page.

Also, my heart skipped a beat when I saw a referral from Comixpedia, until I realized it was only because of my listing with The Webcomics List.

Past that, I haven't really gotten that many odd ones. *sniffle*

I've had a few of the Igor listings as well...plus a listing from avantbrowser.com that I'm trying to figure out.

I think that's just a browser/firewall set to paranoid "Hide the http refferer because I can not allow the owner of the page I'm linking to them form my secret haxxoring headquaters, nyuck nyuck nyuck."
And they probably can't see your images.

And I keep getting visits from forums.zonnet.nl, I tried searching that place a couple of times, but found nothing. My guess is some people have slightly screwed up browsers and when they type in the addres while browsing a page, then the said page appears as the refferer. Or something.
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

This happens every once in while. It's due to browsers not sending correct data.

I mean, look at this referral from last month:

1 0.00% http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/

If Crtl Alt Del really plugged me, people must've been really skipping the rants if only one of them clicked the link.

I get those XXXX: things too. The weirdest referrals, though, come from Google from all over the world: Korea, Hong Kong, Canada, the UK, France... it's extra odd when you find out it's just one such link per month, but it's done EVERY month. As if a single korean, chinese, canuck, british and french guy search for something, my link pops up, they go "what's this?" and click, and go "AggH it's that comic again". And then they do it all over again next month.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

I think those are blocked referrers ... like when they go through an anonymous proxy ....

:P I have had quite a few hits coming from a "breast expansion" forum... ahem... one of my comic's fan was telling people to check out my character's "upper region".... :o

I just found out that somebody is using Sandy as her(?) Live Journal avatar (not once but three different versions!). I would never have even noticed if she hadn't linked me in one entry.

I've gotten referrals from jpegs before, not a link from a page with a jpeg mind. The referral was from the image.

I had one once from like an Arizona sports page. But I got like 43 hits from it yet couldn't find a single link anywhere.
