It was mostly me blowing off steam about my math class. The teacher has made it clear in no uncertain terms that 1) she had no interest in teaching the class and 2) she considered all of us inferior students. I believe the quote was "If it were up to me, only four of you would pass this course". I shouldn't have a problem, since I'm pretty sure that, up until Tuesday, I was one of those four. Unfortunately, I blew the final (I left a good half of it blank). A combination of anger at myself mixed with anger at the Professor resulted in a diatribe against the math department of NMSU. I still feel the department as a whole is substandard, but I probably should have put more effort into studying for the final. (I still hold that "Everything we've covered in the homeworks is fair game for the final. You may now ask me questions concerning specific problems; otherwise, you may leave" is not, in fact, a review session).

Anyway, that's behind me; I had my last Final Exam today, and it went fairly well. I know that I've passed all my other classes with B's (not great, but I can live with it), and I attend Graduation Saturday. A wine tasting course this July, and then I'm completely done.

I'm bored at work, don't mind me.

What is grappa?

A distilled Italian spirit made from the second squeezing of the grape. It's mighty. It's also pricey at times, having attained a certain chic at about the time the premium cigar fad started. But the price doesn't really reflect what it's worth. In Italy it's a perfectly routine drink, and the entire family might enjoy some after dinner. Including the kids. Which explains much about Italy.

It's amazing what sugar can do to me sometimes. I found out something wierd about coke and pepsi (and probably most other colas). Apparently in the States they are made with molasses and in Canada they are made with sugar.

You'd taste the molasses if that's what is was. Actually, they use corn syrup in the US and sucrose (regular sugar) in Canada. I'm not sure why. There's still a slight difference in taste, and when I still drank sodas I preferred the sucrose. That's all they used to use in the Auld Days -- back when I could get a deposit bottle for 25 cents out of the vending machine at the barbershop, but you had to leave the bottle so they could send it back.

God, I feel old.

Yeah, you are right. I noticed my blunder and was comming back to edit, when I noticed you'd beat me to it. But it also looks like Coke changes back to sucrose in some parts of the states during passover. Any Jews in the audience know, or can figure out, why?

I'm not Jewish, but a lot of my friends are so here goes. This is one of those situations where the kashrut regulations are more stringent than Torah calls for to ensure that no mistakes are made. Kind of like the restriction that forbids mixing cheese and chicken.

It is absolutely prohibited during Pesach for Jews to eat anything leavened. To ensure leavening is avoided, and since moistened grain products can begin to leaven with wild yeasts in a very short period of time, they must be eaten within 18 minutes after coming into contact with water. How they settled 3/10 of an hour I have no idea. But processed grains, being prepared and packaged weeks before consumption, clearly fall under this prohibition.

Now, there are two classes of produce affected here. Chometz, which are grains like wheat, rye, and spelt; and kitniyot, which are legumes. The above regulation strictly speaking applies only to chometz. But some traditions also apply it to kitniyot since the two are often mixed when making bread. Corn is considered kitniyot, and so many observant Jews will not eat anything prepared from corn during Pesach. Thus corn syrup, and anything made with it, is right out.

Not as well as I hoped; only have four loaded and ready, one waiting to be scanned in, and starting on my sixth right now. Granted, they're all full page drawings, but I still was hoping to be a bit farther ahead. Probably shouldn't have picked up La Pucelle Tactics, which has served as a major distraction (though an enjoyable one). Anyway, I'm pretty happy with how the comics themselves have turned out so far. Updates start up next Monday.

Sorry about the Plan (damn it, I want my fix), but I'm glad you approve of the work you have finished.

I ran my game in my own world that I'm developing. It borrows heavily from the Discworld, and the webcomic Acid Reflux, some from Ebberon, Nadia, Laputa, and Atlantis and even a little bit from Strange Daze and the 5th millenium books. It's basically everyting I thought was cool from many sources thrown together for me to play with. I even got an avatar of myself in there. A god (one of a vast number of godlings), who is an ascended human wizard, who survived the near apocolypse and has been desperately trying to rebuild civilization ever since (because he intimately knows what has been lost). One of the PC's even decided to worship my god, I thought that was cool.
My only problem is comming up with original adventures, fortunately there are lots of published ones I can utilize for now. And my world allows me to use them basically as is. I did come up with one idea that if it works will have the PC's carrying around for a couple weeks an artifact that causes winter for miles around them, wherever they go! All the while being chased by the rampaging ice barbarians who want it back to prevent thier iceburg home/base from melting any further! The kicker is when/if they get it to someone who can take it off thier hands, it's going to be used to create the equivilant of a cold storage warehouse. "Wadda ya mean we went through all that grief just so he could make a big freezer?" I'm looking forward to dropping that one on them.

Hrm. Unfortunately, no. I'm using dial-up, so transferring files it not something my computer does particularly well.

I am curious though, if you only have dialup, how would a link have helped you? If you're patient, bittorrent could work while you sleep and it has no problem with starting and stopping the download. If there are no seeds, I can start one for you. Just contact me.
If it's still no good, I could mail you a cd or two.
And if you wait, you will be waiting for at least a year if not two before this stuff gets released. Just a heads up, let me know your decision.

Sounds cool, all good sources. I love to steal bits from webcomics and books for my games. Only one of the players ever catches on and its great to just watch his rage when he realizes that he's running around in a place modeled after santa's north pole base from sluggy, or when he realizes he's been talking to a character from a comic for the past 15 minutes.
