Life sucks...

Post by Jackiesfridge »

...but it's about to get better, Beej - FX is running Buffy Season 6 at the rate of 2 eps a day starting today, and we're tapin' em (cuz Carey refuses to wait until June to find out what happens, and who am I to argue? ;))

Anyway, as we fill and finish each tape (about 6 eps per), we'll fire 'em off to Point for ya. Not as convenient as the whole season on DVD, but a heckuva lot cheaper. Until Season 6 actually comes out. At which point we both immediately begin combing the used places.

I'm not being critical -- honest -- but it just struck me how little the above sentence resembles anything my parents would ever have known as English.

I'm not trying to be snarky, just observing how the ol' Internet has made textlanguage evolve at a truly astounding rate.

Nono. I actually talk to Beej like this, too. Ask him. :)

Gooood, gooood. Soon, my EVIL plans vill reach fruition!!!

...

Wait, was it me who got you hooked on Buffy? I can't remember.

(Anyway, don't know if it's your cup of tea, but this month's Toyfare has a special send-away offer for a toy version of vampire Willow that looks pretty cool. Just a heads up)

Yeah, my friend Nathan showed me that figure. It looks cool, but Willow in Vamp-face isn't all that appealing to me.

And yeah, Shannon really does talk like that. You can hear him actually pronounce "cuz" sometimes. And it was HE who got me addicted to Buffy, so I may have to go back up the chain of addiction (which will probably end with Joss Whedon :-? ).

Wait a tick, you guys are just getting season 6 now? Shiiii, it's been finished for a while now here. Bah! Crazy TV stations... Alright then, not gonna say anything, not gonna ruin anything...no wait, I will say something, just two words, not even the character's name, but really rather worth saying:
Iyari Limon. :D

Okay, I lied horribly. I will say one more thing, one addict to a few more, it's a fun season. Right, that's it, I'm done. Lips are sealed. Fffwip.

P.S. Just want it noted, I at least still kept to "not ruining" anything.

[EDIT: Whoa, my avatar's back! THe heck-? Haven't seen it around for awhile...Eh, go fig.]
Will work for Pocky.

Mau - we're just getting season 6 on syndication on FX. I never watched the show when it was actually on (bad taste in my mouth from the movie), and didn't start until this summer, when I rented the XBox game and liked it. I then talked to Matt about the series (yes, damn you, it IS your fault, and by the way, I have around 4000 words of a 'Duality' novel from November if you want to check it out) and he told me he liked it, and we have compatible tastes, and so I checked out season one from the library.

Then we (my wife and I) checked out season two.

Then season three. And then, when we reached the end of season three, and the library hadn't gotten season four in yet...my wife sent me out to buy it. Literally minutes after the season three finale.

So, yeah, we're hooked. We now own the DVD sets for Buffy seasons 1, 2 (thanks, BJ - check will be on the way tomorrow!), 3, 4, and 5, as well as Angel season 2. We watched season 1, but haven't found it at a good price yet.

Anyway, somewhere around season three or four (late July) I managed to talk it up enough to get BJ hooked, too. So both of us late-starters have now seen everything up through Buffy 5 and Angel 2. However, BJ doesn't have cable, and my wife and I refuse to watch ahead in case we stumble across some syndicated spoiler, so when we found out that FX was just starting season 6 we were ecstatic. So now we're tapin'.

Wow. More info than you ever wanted. :) Net net, it's not the network that's slow, it's me and BJ. :)

<Blink, blink> Duality novel? What, what? Is this on the site? I'll have to go look.
I always was indifferent to Buffy, then I caught the last few episodes of the second last season and kept wanting to see how it resolved. Then I saw the cliffhanger and I said to myself 'I gotta see what they do with that.' But I never could see the next episodes, my timing is terrible, and I still don't know what they did! Maybe I'll borrow/rent it when it comes out.
I also thought that musical episode was really cool. Spike got the best lines, there on the stage, near the end.
And since you all are hooked on Whedonisms, I'll take this opportunity to command you all to see Firefly. Better television has almost never been made, and in typical TV executive logic, it got buried, preempted, shuffled and cancelled. But they are trying to make a movie.

Inara: What did I tell you about barging into my shuttle?
Mal: That it was manly and impulsive?
Inara: Yes, exactly, only the exact phrase I used was "don't".

My turn to say "DUALITY NOVEL?!"

And add that I've been drooling to get my hands on it since a friend of mine talked it up to me over Thanksgiving. I know I'll like it, but I have to find it cheap cos...well......I'm cheap. Though I may have to drop however much this week's TV Guide costs...

And I almost burst myself at the line you quoted.

Duality Novel

Post by Jackiesfridge »

Yeah, I signed up for the NaNoWriMo thingie, in the hopes of forcing myself to actually write something. It kinda worked - I got farther than I had before, but I still got bogged down around 3-4000 words, and haven't had a chance to do much with it since.

Please remember that I haven't written anything of length in years, and I was going for speed and quantity over quality. Drafts don't get much rougher than this:

http://home.new.rr.com/fpp/Duality.rtf

Enjoy, or at least don't laugh too hard.

Is anyone else having problems accessing keenspace comics?
I have no idea what that NaNoWriMo thingie is, but I certainly will read that file!
I'm pretty cheap myself, I've been looking around town but I haven't found the Firefly box set anywhere! Future Shop and A&B Sound are still sold out! I heard HMV still has some, but I don't shop there on principle alone.
And as for quotes, I've got more! :D

Mal: This job I would pull for free.

Me! Last time I hit JF or TS was on Monday. As far as I can tell, Keenspace has been down all week.

I only got into the forums today by using Google's cached version of the JF page.

I can't even get Keenspace's page to load.

Keenspace! Incompitence in hosting.

Boardy (the old server, which JF, TS, CB&CG, and most of the older Keenspace comics are on) died, or so I've read from the announcement forum, the Yahoo Group, and the Livejournal group. And the comics on the new server aren't updating, although they're still up.

Ugh. Didn't we go through all this like a year ago?
Kinda glad I don't have comic on here anymore. But a week without Fridge or Tonja goodness? No excuse!
Oh, and if Keenspace ever does recover, will we be seeing the TJ and JF store up then? Cause I've got a hankerin to orderin' some books ^_^

Well, you have to expect problems with what is, really, a free service. I am constanly impressed that the Keen people can even offer this service, let alone offer it without problems much of the time. As soon as something is free, demand shoots right up and resources for upkeep disappear. I am curious what the physical operation is like.

(Sorry, I can't resist. )

Freaking hell. I get distracted for two days getting ready for the local Career Fair, and when I get back everything goes and disappears for several days.

Anyway, glad to hear you've managed to find time to play around with Duality some more! I'll read the textfile in-between bouts of gibbering madness stemming from school and work.

And as an aside, yes, Firefly was a damn fine show. Hopefully they'll find some way of resurrecting it in some form or another.

The will of life of the God on earth
This is Babelfish's translation of that line Shannon, Italian to English. What does it mean?
And by the way, your writing's not bad. I was suprised by the ability to affect a stasis state, don't remember you mentioning that one. The religious overtones were also a suprise. And Bryce seems to be something of a racist bastard, if a competent one.
So when am I going to get more? I actually own a whip Shannon, don't make me come down there :) (and give it to your wife).
For peoples general edification, it appears Josh has a deal in the works for a Firefly theatrical movie, with original cast, and it appears to be sailing along at a good clip towards actually being made. Not a tv show, but oh well, I takes what I can gets.

And here's two more, cause I'm a fanboy.
1. Captain Reynolds: He's not the first psycho to hire us nor the last. You think that's a commentary on us?

2. Wash: Who's flying this thing? Oh right, that would be me.

Although I didn't go into the history much yet, the Terran 'government', for lack of a better word, is a theocratic empire, with the Inquisitors as chief enforcers/intelligence. "The living will of God on Earth" was an honorific I came up with for the Emperor, and I didn't want to forget it so I made babelfish translate it into Italian and slapped it onto the end of the document. I need to have someone who actually speaks Italian help me phrase it better, obviously.

I mailed a bunch of stuff to BJ and Matt months ago that goes into some of the historical background, as well as a little tech and such. There's a timeline and then just a bunch of brainstorming notes. Lemme know if you're interested and I'll email 'em, but those don't get posted - too rough.

Stasis is a tech I've stolen outright from Niven's Known Space, for the simple reason that I couldn't come up with anything better just yet. As soon as I do, I'll correct that.

Yeah, Bryce is a piece of work. I haven't exactly figured out why, yet - I'm sure it will reveal itself in time.

And thanks for the compliment. :) I used to be a fair writer, back in the day. Lately I tend to get bogged down with things like lack of a coherent plot, and inability to provide a reasonable conflict. But we'll see what happens.

Later,
S
