NewsBOX or NewsHACK?
Okay, people, I whipped up a really crummy newsbox I call NewsHACK...
Basically it's a uber-stripped down version of what I originally intended
It does NOT work yet, so don't complain about it not working, what I want is a few people to rig up 150x300 NewsBOX style animations (see keenspot pages for reference) and then "banner" them using the banners editor.
Then go back to the edit_comicinfo script and see if it shows up at the bottom. If it does, select it, then click the button that should appear.
There is more to this, but that's all I was able to setup tonight. I want to make sure it does this. You should in theory be able to put more than one newsbox (hence the reason for more than one newsbox ID, because a link/description is supposed to go with it... which hasn't been completed.
Anyways, people create 150x300 images and get ready.
(When I implement the proper version it will actually check ratings, so keep it PG please.)

Actually, it sounds like Kooossh testing. Make a big box with all kinds of flashing lights and things that go whir whir and around and around...Beta testing! Yaay! I like beta testing.

But still fun!
HTML is ON
BBCode is ON
Smilies are ON

Sounds fun!NewsHACK *USE AT OWN RISK*
I've uploaded my rough draft of the animation. As soon as guide updates I'll test it.
**Hours later**
The banner is up now, and I was able to select it using the radio button in the newshack section. I clicked it, then hit submit. When I went to the page again, the radio has gone back to deselected. I don't know whether it did anything or not.

Enabled, have fun. use ***newsbox***
How to use:
upload an 150w x 300h image anywhere to your site
goto siteadmin.keenspace.com
login
goto edit comicbanners
select the newxbox banner to make sure it's in the system
THEN
go back and goto edit comic info, go all the way to the bottom and select a box to use. This is done to "enable" the box. If you don't do it, the newsbox code doesn't get written and it doesn't show up in the newsbox.
...
On your site use ***newsbox***, or if you don't care for autokeen you can also put the iframe code on it directly.

Aw.
PG only? That's a real let down. Any possibility of that changing or perhaps a more "seedy" NewsHack being completed?
Haughty spirit and pride make for a wild roller coaster ride!
I mean, as long as you like fairly final endings.

I'd just like to point out that for some reason the newsbox link to UNA Frontiers is messed up:

That is because someone changed information they didn't understand:
comic_address should be blank, it's set to public_html, comic_index is filled, it should be BLANK.
I'm going to fix it, but if I hear of one more person changing this without understanding it, I'm going to disable the entire directory configuration.

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

I don't have a Keen account so I'm not really interested per se, but I had a thought for a FAQ: What are the rules for the newsbox?
Or, to be more specific: Do all sites have to have it on their webpage somewhere? Do you only have to have it if you want to use it? Can you use it but not have it on your site? Does it have to be on the main page or can you put it elsewhere? Etc?
I couldn't see anything like that in the FAQ but I didn't look exceptionally hard, I have to say.

Phalanx has exams so she's not updating the FAQ.
It's not part of the basic indextemplate.html so only the sites that have altered pages will have a newsbox.
I don't see a reason to have a newsbox banner if you didn't include the newsbox on your site. I mean, how would you see that cool banner you made?
***newsbox*** is just a tag. You can technically put it anywhere. Some places just make more sense than others. It would be good on a links page (hmm....I should do that.). You could put it on every archive page (Ghastly did that I believe.)

To get the advantage of advertising without cluttering up your own site. Still, it's hardly as much of a problem if you're allowed to put it in your links page. Index is the important one there.faub wrote:I don't see a reason to have a newsbox banner if you didn't include the newsbox on your site.
