Cynics Needed

Post by ZOMBIE USER 8978 »

I'm looking for helpful words of wisdom on how I can improve my drawing style. I feel like I'm much too childlike in my drawings right now. Not that its a bad thing, but I'd like to improve.

First on the site:

1. The ad banner needs to be at the top, this is a keenspace regulation.

2. Your title is way too big. I shouldn't hafta scroll to see ya comic.

3. Ditch the birthday counter- waste of bandwidth

4. No need to include news box, unless you're in it. You've already got too much stuff on one page.

5. Consolidate the stuff below the comic, use a table of needed.

Second on the layout:

6. Seperate the boxes- frames run into each other.

7. Get a new background- it's louder than the comic. Stick with the main page background, its actually pretty good.

8. Write neater- at least legible

9. Darker lines- the lines ought to be the darkest color.

10. Rulers help. Seriously. Circle template might also be useful in your case.

Third on the background:

11. Make one- at least a couple of lines to define a floor or ceiling, a window, whatever.

Fourth on the characters:

12. The round head ones could use more distinctions between each other so its easy to tell them apart.

By the way, do you know where I can get some banana slug merchandise?

1. Really, now? I was wondering.

2. I'm in the process of killing it.

3. That things still there? Wow. I must have that thing that Guy Pearce had in Memento.

4. Okay. Thought it was regulatory, as well.

5. I just got HTML-saavy. Will take into consideration in the next update.

6. This means #5 to me, so I got confused. Don't worry, it happens easily to me.

7. Also in the process. I kinda like the Happy Halloween junk, though, and its just for backcomics. It is white, though. Very white.

8. Well, I always have a hard time with box width and length. I try.

9. Hm. I see.

10. Rulers seem tacky to me.

11. I know. This has been a big problem with me. It's not that I'm a bad drawer, it's just that I don't really have time a lot of the time.

12. Again, a lot of the time I don't got it. But I do want Dark Sneakers to become less obscure in the ways of the drawings.

And with the Banana Slug items, you could try the Bay Tree Bookstore's site online- its on the UCSC site (http://www.ucsc.edu)
If not there, then maybe we could work something out.

I'll put these criticisms to good use, thanks for stopping by. And if the forum don't work- thats only because I still need to link to my official Dark Sneakers forum.

Woo! UC Santa Cruz! Le sigh...only place I know of that sells gummy banana slugs. Man, why don't other colleges have cool mascots like that?

I don't think it is. Keenspace would probably like you to have the banner at the top but it's only required that you have the ad tag on your page somewhere.

As for how to improve your drawings, all I can say is draw everyday.
Take some art classes or buy a book about how to draw.
If you do that then you'll be sure to improve.
