Dangerous. [15/1/09]
Cor, blimey, old man. It's me old mate, Danger Mouse and good old Penfold, wot. (Said in an extremely fake British accent.)
Now, there are a couple of faces I haven't seen for a while. Not to mention those Marionation references. (Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, as if you don't know. Classics!)
Oh, and we get a bonus reference to Verne's 'The Time Machine'. (sighs) Ah, sweet, sweet nostalgia...

I never did see Danger Mouse growing up, looks like I've missed out on some good pop culture

PS: The HiRez flavor of this strip is going to be a day late. Scott's cable modem hath barfethed and Scott himself is cocooning in bed fighting off a bug. Sorry for the slip, all will be well in good time once again.

Yeap. Danger Mouse; the superhero who lives in penthouse apprtment in a postbox! - part James Bond, part Batman, lots of puns and all fun! Sorry you missed such excellent British entertainment, Mako.

Mate did you miss out! I saw DM and instantly fell in love with the show. Puns and rediculousness. Super Heros and Supervillans.Mako wrote:8)

Danger Mouse was a really great cartoon back in the 1980s. Lots of
very fast puns and silliness, along with a good dose of very British humor.
I'm afraid originally, I had intended to put Edith Picadilly (the English lady mouse From Dela The Hooda) in alongside DM, but I didn't get permission from Style Wager until after I'd already finished the strip.

[Just as well. Not many folks would've understood Danger Mouse
quipping "Edith, No sex, Please. We're British."

Hey! That's the exact same image that was used on the "Name That Toon" segment of last week's Funday Pawpet Show. I've gone ffrom 0 to, well, maybe seven and one half in DM triva all in just 24 hours

I read Della The Hooda and most definitely would have rolled had you been able to pull that off, great idea! Edith would make a great James Bond Girl type character too, hint hintI'm afraid originally, I had intended to put Edith Picadilly (the English lady mouse From Dela The Hooda) in alongside DM, but I didn't get permission from Style Wager until after I'd already finished the strip.![]()

Thanks for the cameo! 8)
I use to make a special trip home from high school to watch DM.
I love that show, got a couple episodes on Beta somewhere, no player but couldn't bear to part with them.
Hope your feeling better soon.

It would still be great if you could fit her in somewhere. Or maybe do a special picture of them, PPLLLEEEEAAASSEKellogg wrote: I'm afraid originally, I had intended to put Edith Picadilly (the English lady mouse From Dela The Hooda) in alongside DM, but I didn't get permission from Style Wager until after I'd already finished the strip.

Awe.... phooey. Edith is one chipper Brittish mouse and that quip would have been just too cheesy not to use.Kellogg wrote:[img]I'm afraid originally, I had intended to put Edith Picadilly (the English lady mouse From Dela The Hooda) in alongside DM, but I didn't get permission from Style Wager until after I'd already finished the strip.![]()

The series is available on DVD now, y'know. You can purchase them through http://www.amazon.co.uk. They're probably Region 2, although I've heard conflicting reports that some of the volumes are Region 0 and will work on any player.Sheepdog wrote:I love that show, got a couple episodes on Beta somewhere, no player but couldn't bear to part with them.![]()

Danger Mouse
I haven't seen Danger Mouse in years. Think it was back in 1984 or 1985 when I was stationed in New London, Connecticut. Well, at least I was in some kind of London to view those episodes.
Get better soon Scott... [[*HUG*]]

You can also get 5 Dangermouse volumes on VHS from this Amazon.com (US) page.
Great cameo, Scott, but now can we have the cake and Edith too?

Is that true?
Does anyone have experience with one?
Thanks for your input.

I play all of mine on my computer, and can find software hacks to disable the region codes if necessary, but yes, region-free set-top players are available.
http://www.zonefreedvd.com/
Many of the major American studios are now adding additional security features (RCE) to their DVDs, which supposedly prevent the discs from working in some region-free players.
Another issue to keep in mind is PAL vs. NTSC. You'll need either a TV that can handle both types of signal, or a DVD player that can convert the signal to your TV standard.
The Duracom DVD715CF is a good example of a multisystem player. It's region-free, can play RCE-protected titles, and is fully NTSC/PAL cross-compatible.
