Hey Krow!

Post by Doctor Ray »

Can you do a little recon for me? I'm looking for Pistol Opera (2001 directed by Seijun Suzuki) on DVD, I've actually found a site that sells it but there either aren't any subtitles or they failed to list that it does. Can you see if you can locate a copy with subtitles or see if such a thing exists?

Gaichu. Search for Gaichu as well. That isn't going to have subtitles, but I don't care. I really want that movie.

BYOUKAI! I've finally learned the kanji for "english". There's a relatively large DVD/music store near where I live. There used to be an absolutely huge Virgin Megastore, but they closed.

Oh, and could you guys figure out a firm date for Otakon? I really need to book tickets soon.

My request first, cause I asked first.

Note: we'll be there, all three days most likely and I think a day before to get establishing shots free of freaks.

Sorry Dray, if it's the region 2 DVD, there are no english subtitles on it. A shame really, most new Japanese DVDs do have english. Maybe you can find a Hong Kong bootleg.

I afraid that that was the only version available. Say, would a DVD Rom drive be able to play a region 2 dvd with the right software? I have no such knowledge of DVD stuff.

Depends. Most DVD software on computers allows you to switch the region it plays on back and forth several times before the region you've selected becomes permanent. (This being the software that comes with your DVD-rom, not the software you use to play it, which are generally different things.) And I'm sure that somewhere out there are programs that can crack it so you can change it as many times as you like.

Back in Canada I owned an Apex DVD player, it had multi-region capability. But new MGM DVDs detect this and refuse to play in it. I guess I'll just have to buy a second DVD player, eventually.

Eh. That's not too bad. DVD players are relatively cheap, anymore... heck, $100 is fairly expensive for one. Of course, since we're still pretty much getting STIFFED on the cost of DVDs, I suppose they know where they're making most of their money.

Try Japanese DVD prices. $45 seems standard. Strangely, American films on DVD are more reasonable at $20, even when they're printed in Japan with Japanese packaging.

Rann: I thought that would be possible.

When my health is good enough to work again and I can start back on my meger income I forsee myself buying a DVD ROM drive and a Japanese copy of Pistol Opera. Subtitles be damned, I'm only in it for the direction anyways.

The cover only hints at the awsomeness inside. Like sexy lingerie, it is just a wrapper.
