well my thoughts were,
we havent been playin that long so ill just send a s&%t load of infantry guys over to at least get him a bit
...didn't work well...

Infantry are good for Recon. they are cheap, so you can send a few of them spread out over the map checking out the terrain.

Yes, that's why you send Infantry on Recon to find the base, as apposed to the more expensive tanks. You save the tanks for the attacks and defense.

At least it's not Tiberian Sun where I can build a bunch of Artillary units and just bombard you base with them. But the Prism Tanks are just a cool. just 10 of those can take out most computer opponents.
