About profanity in your comic:
Maybe you consider swears unneccesary and aim to drop them out? Or you intentionally make clean comic, suitable for children? Or maybe you try to be realistic and put as much swears as it is in life? Or you input as many as you can think of, attempting to be offensive?
Personally I think that swears are powerfull way of expressing, but they wore out with using. So I save them for special ocations. That's why mcDuffies contain few swears here and there. Besides, since I'm not used to swear, I'm kinda not used to put them in my char's mouths either.

My characters swear about as often as I do... though, I DO swear quite often.

I'm honestly not sure if there's any profanity at all in Hotel Grim. There probably is... I guess I just don't think about it. I'm pretty sure that there's no F-bombs though...
Odd considering that I've quite literally embarrassed a sailor with my cussing.

Some people curse a lot, and some don't.
In this woefully underappreciated little comic I used to do called "Mythocorp, Intl", a couple of my characters were fairly foul-mouthed, but the rest were not. In fact, I'm fairly certain that just about every instance of profanity in the comic was uttered by either Briefcase or MacCreagle (with two exceptions I can think of).

swearing can be a powerfull too for charcater development as well as developing a situation.
of rthe most part, we try to keep it clean. but swearing does happen. sometimes there aren't too many other ways to expsess such feelings

Who do you think you are, Taiwanimation?
Yeah, I use bad words in my comic. Most the time I could just as easily substitute a lesser profanity for f***, but I figure it's a web comic. Might as well write down my first impulse.
Of course, for the Keenspace book coming out I have to censor it. No big deal for me, there are only a few strips where I feel profanity is essential.

It's good to start them young.Jamie! wrote:I dont like to use strong profanity. I mean, the odd 'basted' or 'bitch' will pop up, but I mainly use 'feck' or 'shet' as substitutes.
I mean, c'mon, my little cousins look at the thing!

Jaime's cousin: Up your ass, dumbfuck."

My characters swear more than I do ... which really isn't saying much considering I don't swear at all. Their vocabularly is tweaked somewhat, since they're on a fantasy world and a lot of our terms don't quite fit.
My general opinion of swearing is that it performs the same role as an exclamation mark in a sentence, only with a negative connotation. To maximize effect it should be used about as much as you use exclamation marks, i.e. almost never.

Weirdism is going to have about as much profanity as Paperbug did. In other words:
Not enough profanity to be offensive to any of you (I should hope!) but enough profanity that I won't let my (grand)parents read it. Here's another place where Norna comes into the picture. She'll read through the comic scripts, not change any of the (stupid) jokes and end up going "'Bitches'? can't we just say... 'mean people'?"

There is some swearing in TPR, but as I remember there was only one instance of the F-word, and it was recently, but it was in a very small font. ^_^ Heh.
I think swearing is okay when the emotion warrants it, and in a comic, you're your own censor, so you get to choose how you want to present yourself. That's really part of the fun, isn't it? :D
Huh. But I did just realize that I NEVER swear in real life...only in writing... Hm. I'm such a quiet person anyway, my friends would probably die of heart attacks if I swore. XD Plus I have a quiet voice...it would just sound weird. XP

That's just how I feel sometimes... if I don't come here for one freakin' day, it's like, "forget about it." I can't keep up with you crazy people...KedaDibandion wrote:Don't make me slap you, foo'.Uh... do you really care? Are you still reading?![]()
At any rate, my comic has no swears and probably never will. I care a lot less about this issue than I used to, yet I remain sensetive to those who are like the person I used to be. (?) I am so grate! garate! gurrate! gr8! what is that word...?
