My favorite radio station has just one flaw... an annoying tendency to play Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes. I'd be a lot happier if I never heard another song from those self-absorbed, preachy rednecks.

Even Striesand's lackeys are annoying. When she used that Shakespeare quote that wasn't really Shakespeare's to bash Republicans, people criticized her for it... and her press secretary responded by saying she made a mistake and that she's really "brave" and "smart".
Barbra's underling was really laying it on thick, giving me the impression that Striesand insists on living in her own little world, or the heavenly cloud floating above it. Any disturbance of this fantasy enrages her, which is probably why she hates Republicans so much. They remind her that not EVERYTHING has been put on this Earth to make her happy.

P.S. My stepdad likes Barbra Striesand a lot, so I buy him any albums I find at thrift stores. He's been a great father... but I'm not so sure about his taste in music.

mmm, flogging molly.

no american politics. pennywhistle, fiddle, and a punk bass line. irish accents and lots of whiskey. that's what a band needs. there's no music so good as that made by angry happy drunken irishmen, says she who cut her musical teeth on the pogues...in fact, i'm listening to them right now...sigh. i want to marry flogging molly and be their gypsy when i grow up...

Aw, Striesand is no worse than any other. So many people think that what they think should be how everybody thinks and anybody whose thoughts are different are either stupid or evil. She just has a lot more yesmen and film footage.

It's kinda' like that flap that the "black leadership" is waving over a movie produced by black people, acted by black people, showing a black community not in the throes of drugs, gang wars and ersosion of family values where one character goes off on King, O.J. and Jackson and is summarily dissed by the rest of the characters. It is like the idea has never entered their heads thatf "their" people could disagree with continued gawd-like reverance of past historical figures and the repeated flogging of their supporters by racial politics.

It really is sad in a way, the loss of recognition of others ideals, beliefs and rights. As one of my friends had put of it, "I want to see this country run by a benevolent dictator who thinks just like me". And for the life of him, he doesn't see how bad that could be.

Well, that was depressing, back to music. Musical scores, instrumentals and non-popsong soundtracks are definitely worth listening to as they tend to be more of an ambient mood setter as opposed to songs.

I'm inclined to agree: I find it much easier to think and work while listening to classical music, "smooth jazz", or "new age". Vocals tend to draw my train of thought away from what I'm doing. And they're even worse when I just want to relax, and let my thoughts drift away.

I've listened to some Molly, good stuff. Don't have any of their CDs quite yet. A couple of my friends love them.

If you're looking for another good Celtic artist, try some of Ashley MacIsaac's stuff (if you like Molly, you should try his "Hi, how are you today?" or "Helter's Celtic" albums)

You may also enjoy Wolfstone, Gaelic Storm (the band that played the Titanic party music...and was drunk at the time), Irish Descendents (not Irish, but Newfoundland - and won Irish music awards in Ireland!!), The Barra MacNeils, and Rawlins Cross. Canada's got some GREAT Celtic music!

ashley macisaac is pretty good stuff. i'm also pretty into the dropkick murphys, and of course the old pogues stuff from before shane blew his vocal cords and had to quit...sigh...

the irish descendents are good.

jt, you play bodhran? wicked! a friend of mine picked one up on a whim at a festival one year, and just started playing around with it. an hour later, he was playing triplets and complex rhythms well enough to impress some of the musicians at the festival...apparently he's just a natural for the instrument. he keeps trying all the usical instruments he can, just on the off chance it'll happen again, but so far nothing's clicked like that.

Been playing for around nine years now. My then-girlfriend bought one for my birthday so I wouldn't have to bum one when we both were playing in the same band. Since then, I've learned a little on the pennywhistle and last year bought a concertina (still have a lot of trouble with that little sucker, too!). Alas and alack, I'm not one of those "gifted natural musicians" - I have to work at learning instruments.

C'mon, Flogging Molly was almost overplayed on almost every radio station (that i listen too)

anyway Flogging Molly is an Irish based band that kind of mixes old drinking songs with punk rock. Usually it sounds pretty cool.

I would suggest that you get yourself one of their CD's, go to the Vans Warped Touer (their in it every year) or get a Warped Touer CD. You dont wanna miss all the fun

another good band if anybody cared is Less than Jake. You should check them out.

FYI, that song is sung by Buck-O-Nine, not Flogging Molly.

Agreed, they kick ass, but they're from LA. Molly's is the name of the pub in LA they started out playing in. Dave for sure is from Ireland, but I think the rest of them actually aren't.

Definitely check out Less Than Jake. While we're on it, check out Buck-O-Nine, Bim Skala Bim, and one of my very favorites (although kinda old) the Scofflaws. Actually, some They Might Be Giants just came on the play-list. You should check them out also. Flogging Molly has 4 albums out (3 studio, 1 live), and they all kick ass. Woot!

More FYI, Flogging Molly isn't on the Warped Tour this year, but The Dropkick Murphys will be in their place, if that interests you at all.
