How to do a forum-based Role-Play. [OOC] and [RP]

And enough control of that talent to maybe move a grain of sand from one end of a table to another. In short, he's sitting on a powder keg.

Chaly squirmed in her seat. At least three people around her were having dirty thoughts of some sort, because suddenly, the thought of someone going campus-streaking changed from running around painting giant green lines on things to things that were not polite to say in public.
She bit her lip, one eye twitching rapidly, and raised a paw in the air, trying not to look directly at anyone around her for fear of losing control.
"*squeak* Sir? May I go get a glass of ice? Please? Pleeeeease?"

Certainly, miss.

You'll find some ice at the back of the room.

Chaly practically leaped from her seat and ran to the back of the room, where she soon ended up sitting and chewing furiously at a mouthful of ice. <i>The people are safe again... for now...*sigh*</i>

[Captain apathy]

I attempt to help chaly by making the students around her apathetic and listless.


"What are the names of the houses, and how long 'til we can join them" I pipe up, to try and draw attention away from the very randy students in one corner of the auditorium

We have three "houses" -- actually floors of the dorms. There's a fourth "house" for those that live off-campus, but that just started last year, and they're much smaller.

First-floor residents call themselves Primes (creative, huh?). On average, these tend to be more studious and laid back.

Second-floor residents call themselves Wendigos. They are more likely to cause trouble. *glares at Talbon, the second-floor-residing RM* But we tend to put the students with the roughest power problems there, as the others can help keep them under control.

Third-floor residents are called Atlans, tend to be more prone to sports.

The non-resident "house" meets in the lounge and call themselves Expatriots. For inter-house activities, they may compete as equals, but due to their smaller numbers, they are, unfortunately, disqualified from some events.

Now don't get me wrong! The students in these houses are for the most part fairly well-mixed. Just, over time, certain averages seem to work out. And the inter-house rivalries are <i>always good-natured.</i>

Your entry processing will determine your placement as far as the houses. Once you meet with your floor (or the Expatriots), I'm sure they'll let you in on any House traditions and such.

And after last year's fiasco, let me reiterate to you all: <i>Hazing will not be tolerated</i>.

A slouching brown bear with his nose buried in a book wanders into the room. He absently sits in a chair as he assidiously reads. Eventually he notices the noise of those around him and looks up.

"Oh, is it that time of year already? How time flies. Now, am I a student this year? Or a teacher? Or am I TA-ing?" muttering to himself he starts flipping through his book rapidly.

[Talbon]

Talbon chooses to ignore Woofaboomus's remark.

"Well I think that about covers it for the meet and greet. You'll all be getting your schedules tomorrow, now you'll notice that many of these 'classes' are nothing like you've ever had before. They will be demanding, but there are no grades, right way or by the book! Anything goes so long as it works for someone and remember, just because someone chanting in Swahili while practicing levitation works for them it doesn't have to work for you. Find your own path and you'll be much happier... though a lot of paths have been walked down already. The books and other circulum will mostly provide a base to build from. We've found in our studies that most psychic dyslexia is caused by the subject having a self formed block in their mind. We'll help you get around that block and achieve a level of excellence for yourself."

Talbon grins, "Ohh yes that reminds me. Not all of you suffer from psychic dyslexia, the institute decided a few years back to expand our studies to include people with more mild talents. We'll help you to improve if possible or find ways to use your powers in new and inventive ways."

"Now you can still all stick around if you like, I'll be around to answer any questions you might have. But except for the last words from our 'Esteemed'" and yes, Talbon does do the quotes when Woofaboomus is looking the other way. "Dean we're almost done."

Well, as my colleague says, this concludes this portion of the evening. Feel free to mingle and enjoy the refreshments. Shortly there will be a call for everyone to sign up for their housing plan, and your house leaders will take over from there.

(OOC: Volair actually DOES have a power, but it's that he is immune to any and all psychic senses and influences. /OOC)

I head for Talbon, intent on apologizeing for attempting to change his donut., but also wondering which house will end up being saddled with me. To Talbon I say "Sorry about the donut, sometimes I'm siezed by the imp of the preverse. My powers are mostly under controll, it's just re-learning the extents and limitations of them. Which house/ floor would you reccomend, or is it something I have no controll over?"

Chaly walked past the randy group in the corner just in time to see Volair stretching, and cursed, heading back to the table she'd just spent the last 10 minutes chewing ice at.
She tapped a talon to her beak and thought. <i>I just hope nobody in my house... whichever house I get into... has any very strong desires to do bad, or I could easily get in a lot of trouble...</i>
After a few more pieces of ice had been mangled and eaten, she decided to go say hello to people while waiting for building assignments. The first other student she came across was a fox-like one with <b>four</b> tails instead of the normal <b>one</b>. Chaly held out one of her birdlike hands and grinned. "Hi, I'm Chaly! I'm an extreme empath--to the point that sometimes, I just have to walk by or even glance at someone to feel exactly like they do--and have an inability to control it. What's your name? What do you do?"

To Chaly I respond "My name is Saski, and my 'gift' is that if I can imagine it happening, it usually does, through magic. Fortuneately, though, one of the limitations is that I cannot physically harm anybody, fur or otherwise." Spontaneously the door changes from wood to sheet metal. I quickly say, slightly embarrassed "I just want to be able to controll it, or aim it. Exrteme Empathy, huh, I'm going to have to watch out, or I expect you'll be doubled up in fits of laughter, as I'm prone to pulling practical jokes and telling awful puns. I noticed that you were admiring my tails, this is a genetic trait that runs in my family, and usually reflects the amount of power you can command."
I brace myself carefully and extend my paw in friendship, doing my best to keep a shield on my feelings.

A purple vixen bursts in through the doors, halts and casts bewildered glances at the mingling people. With a gulp and a very wide, very guilty grin she looks in the Dean's general direction.

We're just socializing now, but shortly we're going to do the whole registration thing and send you off to your houses.

How are you guys doing? What's my power? Oh right, well I have a power over the elements of the weather, usually lighting, thunder, and ice. Then there's also that I'm known to many as the Procrastination Goddess. I seem to have perfected the art of getting things done at the absolute possible moment. It's more fun that way. I'm a little nervous about the housing though, what are y'all thinking?

*Shel idly pulls up a chair which she stradles while waiting for a response.*

I reply to Shel "Well, mainly the only thing I'm hoping for is a room with good sound-proofing, as I practice playing the guitar. As for nick-names, I was usually called 'The Imp of the Perverse' for my constant punning and practical jokes. I'm slowly re-discovering my powers because an evil wizard locked them within me, for reasons that I was not aware of, and they only were released when he perished." I see looks of horror and say "I had nothing to do with the hastening of his departure from this plane of existance, nor to my knowledge did any of my family, it is believed that one of his other many enemies made the world a safer place."
