Destiny?
Rikk is at the center?
Gah!
And Rumi is trying to get up...
The General is a zealot! That's what she was talking to Kath about! She appears evil to Kath, (and is in fact doing evil) while she appears to be working toward some psychopathic goal of fulfilling destiny.
I have a terrible feeling that this meean either Rumy or Rikk will die. Either will be horrible. Either's death will wreck the other for life (Rumy for failing to save him, Rikk for seeing someone die for him).
And the proffessor... messes around with a box labeled time machine. Well, I guess whoever thought up the Dr. Why theory was correct. Congrats. I hope he's faster with what he's doing or a death is unstoppable...
Does anyone see Harry or Stu in the comic, though? I'm guessing Harry was just not in the shot last time (surely the General would have pointed his death out), but where's Stu? Maybe he'll try his knife trick again...

The Doctor's been known the bend the Laws of Time to save a person's life from time to time.
Since Rikk was killed in the alternate universe we saw, I suspect that it'll be Rumy we lose in this one, as she tries to defend Rikk. And when the crossover occurs, uh oh. And of course, that's why Dr Why is there, to allow the Skifies to the other timestreams to crossover and aid themselves! It's the Five Doctors (and the Three Doctors for that matter) all over again. Yay!
Death! Destruction! Temporal Mayham!
*does the Time Warp(tm) to celebrate*

Rumy might well try an attack, and Stu just might as well, but there's not only the General to deal with. There are several soldiers, also armed with guns.
Basically, barring some serious Max Payne "bullet time" style maneuvering on the part of the Fans, they're totally screwed. It's up to Doctor Wherefore to pull them out of this, to the extent that he can.
Unless the Fans can talk their way out, which seems unlikely.
I think we know why Katherine will hate the General now: Besides the obvious fact of Rikk (and possibly others) dying, the "great destinies" she's referring to are obviously plays on Kath's love of power. Perhaps she wants to install Kath as a Lieutenant of some sort? If so, Rikk is obviously in the way here.
Evidence that Rumy is not long for this parallel universe: Meighan has usurped her role as provider of Gratuitous Panty Shots.

Damn, it's been a while since I posted here. I need to get back to the boards more, maybe update my hideously neglected Fans/Changeling conversion thread.
Hari- Glad I'm not the only one who thought of Calvin & Hobbes when I saw the time machine. I was going to comment, but you beat me to it!
Nullset- Interesting idea about Rumy and Rikk. Of course, now that it's been mentioned, that's exactly what T won't have happen, but interesting none-the-less.
Actually, I greatly hope Rumy will survive. Aside from the fact that she's my favorite character and I don't want to see any of the Fans die (I've accepted that it'll happen, but I don't like it) one of my favorite plot points in the series is Rumy's crush on Rikk. Even if Rikk were to meet alternate-Rumy and learn that they dated in her reality, it would seem kind of anti-climatic to me after all the pining our Rumy did for him.
Well, whatever the case, at least we've still got two more comics to sort this out for the week. Knowing T, if anyone dies this time around, it'll be friday.

Actually, I bet that Friday we see the sound effect of one of the guns going off, but we don't know WHICH gun and WHICH member of the Skiffy club it is ... until Monday! On 2002-04-02 19:56, GuidoC wrote:

If that's what happens - Curse you, T! By the chromium balls of Clonos, I curse you!

It's worse than that -- we won't even know if the gun is supposed to hurt them.On 2002-04-02 20:02, RalphP wrote:Actually, I bet that Friday we see the sound effect of one of the guns going off, but we don't know WHICH gun and WHICH member of the Skiffy club it is ... until Monday! On 2002-04-02 19:56, GuidoC wrote:

"Be healed," she says, and removes all of Rikk's "excess" imagination in a flash of light, leaving him a bland and uninspiring shadow of himself.

Of course, Shanna is also not visible in the picture, and we know that she is okay (even as she prepares to write It Hurts My Ears). On 2002-04-02 19:16, KingLeon wrote:

Yeah, 'cause it worked so well last time.Maybe he'll try his knife trick again...

Maybe this time he'll throw at one of the foot soldiers -- maybe they don't have reflexes like the General's.

Why does he need to hurry? He has a time machine! On 2002-04-02 19:16, KingLeon wrote:

He's taken off his glasses. Does anyone else think that this will be followed by his removal of that ludicrous wig and absurd outfit? And if so, what will he look like underneath his costume?

I don't think she will kill Rikk. If they had wanted to kill someone in particular, they could have easily from a distance. They were viewing the entire scene with great detail and were able to teleport devices into each Sciffie's inner ear. They could have just as easily teleported something into some other vital organ. I like the theory that the General is going to change Rikk in some way, like the way she did with Shanna's mom.
Of course, perhaps she just has a deep-seated psychological need to gloat in front of her enemies and execute the hero herself. Is so, she can be delayed by getting her to reveal her ultimate plan in detail. Heh.

I don't think that anyone will die *yet*. T said that someone will die in this book "Times of War" - remember that the first "book", Fantastica, lasted a year and a half or so... There's enough time...
What I'm afraid of right now is something more... personal and psychological. That the General may end up actually making a good case for why some of them should die, that in the end the death of few may end up saving more people. I *do* consider the sacrifice of few lives as something excusable if the results are good - after all that's what happens in every war with generals sending innocent men to their deaths for a supposedly worthy cause, that more may live in freedom.
And at the same time I can't agree to the killing of *any* of the Fans... Part of me because surely there must be other ways than killing them? But clearly also because these are people I know of. It's personal. Sending soldiers to their deaths, yes - sending people I know, no.
<sigh> It's a great comic which manages to reveal the hypocricy in one's own thoughts...
The General's so far been one of the fascinating villains I've *ever* seen, not just in Fans, but *anywhere*. Anybody noticed how her underlings seemed to not only be intelligent, but also to make individual comments, ranging from the aesthetic to expression of impatience *with* understanding for the reason of the delay to appreciation of irony?
It's not the kind of "I'm eager to serve your glorious plan, Ma'am!" zombie-like attitude that we've come to expect that most dystopian future tyrants like. The General seems to appreciate individuality and her underlings understand this. She seems both intellectually and bodily superior, she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty herself...
[Sidenote: On the other hand her underlings'
names are too similar. Points against individuality there.
]
Ofcourse she also keeps on saying too many things about glory and destiny - that kind of people tend to have too personal and narrow a view of what is good for mankind and what isn't. <g> That's one of my few hints of hope I have that her ultimate plan won't be one I'll also share.
(yeah, the dystopian alternate universe is another hint, but we don't yet know how it fits in...)
