You can view the comic I'm talking about here: http://www.geocities.com/hawkclaw987/ep ... 4430988290

Would Keenspace accept this comic? I know about sprite comics and hand-drawn comics.....
I'm asking because these pics take up a lot of space at the moment (I really need to get around to learning HTML) so I was hoping I could sign up with keenspace.

Of course! Keenspace accepts all comics! You might have to request a space increase shortly after joining though.

Um, some of those images are unnessicarily large, you could compress them a bit either with the dimentions or quality, and they'd still be good

btw: Looks really cool, would read more of it but am heading off now

I'm trying to find a good image compressor. Do you know one?
Nice to know! Geocities only has enough room for one episode per account.
I just signed up. Now to wait for my account to get set up......

Heya. I'm the admin of KeenSpace, and here's the skinny.

The account space limit is... unlimited. But we give you a limit of 50 megs initally. Most classic style (newspaperish) comics take several years to get it filled up (I have mine at aprox 8 megs now!)

With your account, we're a bit itchy over it since you look like to be using Lego's Bionicle copyright w/o permission (and you do not recognize it). You are welcome to apply, but your account may be delayed or denied.

Sure don't look like Lego... Guess they're branching out.

Anyway, speaking of copyright etc. What's up with sprite comics? They're OK, legally speaking? I don't get it.

I know I could have some problems with the LEGO part, but I figure this is one of the times where it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

I suppose the big question is whether or not using pictures of Bionicles is in the same ballpark as perhaps, sprite-comics.

I just toss in a little disclaimer at the bottom of mine, like so:

[quote]Sonic the Hedgehog and all related characters are copyright
The Very Wrong Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

Consider that Lego produces a video camera kit for Mac/PC I think Lego would have a hard time justifying action for simply using lego. However if a trademark is abused (which could be the case, I don't know about this particular lego thing) Lego would have reason to go after the person who is using the trademark without permission.

Second, in regards to sprite comics. Sprite comics are much more dangerous, and many people who are doing sprite comics do not realize that they are not only making illegal copies of game data, but that using the characters, locations, or even item/creature names could just as very well be infringing on copyrights and trademarks.

It would be a waste of time for Square/Sega/Capcom/Nintendo to go after individual sprite-rippers, but they can go after people distributing the illegal copies of their game data. (Yes images dumped from a ROM cartridge are illegal copies, and deriving anything from that data is also an illegal copy.)

When a comic consists of nothing but sprite-rips, it's a potential lawsuit.

You can do some ass-covering by having a "credits" and a disclaimer to who really created the images and you could dampen any potential lawsuit a little. But because all the sprite comics haven't explicitly asked permission to use the image data or the characters/creatures/locations/item names they can still be sued under "use without permission"

A comic that consists of nothing but sprite rips from the same games is not a parody or satire. Wierd Al doesn't make parodies of songs from the same bands all the time, Canadian Air Farce/this hour has 22 minutes don't always just make fun of the same 6 or so issues/characters, etc

In order to classify as a parody, you can't duplicate material exactly, and sprite-rip comics duplicate image data exactly.

A further note, with what Kisai's posted.

If you do a "Deisel Sweeties" and create your own sprites (hint: they got to be completely different than from what you could pull off of a vidgame), we'll allow it.
