Fan Art
Here's a question for you, Sarah...
I've just e-mailed you an attempt at fan-art by yours truly. Now, will the world have to wait until next Sunday to see my masterful creation?
Oh, and I think I gave Ceph the same intriguing look that the Mona Lisa has. Sorta sly...

Heck, I'll post it here as a bonus preview for all those who read the forums.
(And no, Justin, not everything I do is naughty...)

[This message has been edited by Rask (edited 11-26-2001).]

Hey, sometimes we all have to be a bit naughty, otherwise how would we know what's good?
basically to avoid it, in my case
-Justin http://killroyandtina.keenspace.com
Cool pic, btw.
-Justin http://killroyandtina.keenspace.com

Cannonshop: Well, kudos for speaking the language correctly.
Justin: I had never even thought of that! I use multiply extensively when creating a shaded terrain underlay for (British) military maps as a part of my day job, but I didn't even think of using it for my cartooning. I'll have to give it a shot.
Sarah: I still think I do inanimate objects better than I do people. Umm.. Err... That didn't come out right.
I was once thinking of doing a webcomic jointly with a partner, but after I helped set her up, she dropped me and I got discouraged.
But seriously, I wouldn't have the time to do any regular cartooning. I'll stick to fanart and perhaps very sporadic guest strips, and leave the tough work (and my admiration) to the professionals.

Aah, good, another Canadian.
I didn't find the colour too difficult to do. I drew and inked the image by hand, and lightly pencilled in the lines where the shade changes. I then scanned the image in at high resolution in 2-bit black and white, and converted to 24-bit colour. I then drew over the light pencil lines in one of the two colour tones, and flood-filled the rest. When I finished, I reduced the image to its current size, although I should have cleaned up the edges before doing that.
The colours themselves were just picked from the Photoshop palette, with the exception of the skin tones, which were obtained from Gis

Actually, Rask, I'm not Canadian- I just learned english from an English teacher in grade school. Sorry to disappoint. "I's an Amurikun',Whait-trayush from Colla-Raddo, tray-apped in the People's Republic of Waahrshing-tun." (no shit, I actually used to Sound like that...)
On the Coloring thing: one of the problems is that I "shade" the pencil work "Automatically" (gives my scanner fits!), that is, without thinking about it.
getting the stuff cleaned up enough to color usually ends up losing all my detail-work, that, and my "pointing device" is jest a bit on the shitty side...

Hey Rask, did you use a Multiply layer when you colorized? It basically lets you color over you scanned drawing wihout messing up the blackline, sort of like crayons on a coloring book. I live and die by Multiply - Killroy and Tina would be black and white without it. (Not that that's necessarily a bad thing - who ever heard of a pastel blue supervillain?)
-Justin

Foolish justinpie would do well to sleep with one eye open from now on.
KILLROY
1. No, actually Sarah insisted on the original name. I wanted to call it "Ika Comic", but she wouldn't let me. Sarah is very dominating.
2. I didn't say I was bad at drawing people, just better at inanimate objects and static scenes. That being said, I do think I like the above Ceph picture better than my Sandman-Ceph crossover that Sarah will be posting shortly.

Ok, the two pics are up in the gallery now! I put them both on the same page because they're small and fit nicely together.
Heh heh, that Sandman-Ceph pic is great. Sigh, it's too bad Neil Gaiman turned down the Calgary Con. I would have really liked to meet him.
Actually Cannonshop, you're sort of right. Even though I gave it the name Squidship, the whole reason I called it that rather than just Ceph was because it was going to be a project with more than one comic.
We were originally going to figure out some way to alternate two different comics, the one that Rask intended to write and Ceph. We were also going to have some kind of mini-comic going as well. Well I soon found out that having only one comic to worry about is plenty as it is!
