Movies In The Genre...

Hey Everyone,I was just curious what are people's favorite Coming of Age and Romantic Comedy type films?Personally, I like Stand By Me and When Harry Met Sally...I'd love to know what films people like. I'm always looking for good films I haven't seen or recommendations to remind me of a film I haven't seen in a long time.

Mostly I hate movies of both genres, but...Coming of age: "Rushmore".Romantic Comedy: Maybe "High Fidelity", if it even counts. Man, I hate romantic comedies...Kevin Wolf

Hi Kevin,Well, I do admit that most movies of both genres are hacked out shlock... there are some nice ones out there. I only bring up those two genres because they sort of reflect what I'm doing with The Makeshift Miracle.I haven't seen Rushmore yet, so I may have to check it out. High Fidelity kicks ass, it's a great movie that is a romantic-comedy, but doesn't fall into a lot of typical traps of the genre.------------------

Hey Jimbo, Let's not forget Grosse Point Blank. A fine romantic comedy with humour, guns, romance and a great soundtrack. It also stars that charming John Cusack that all you kids seem to like. Huzzah.
When Harry Met Sally is probably *the* quinticential romantic comedy. If you've seen this one you've seen...well most of 'em.
Oh yeah. Great comic Jim. Love the drawings. Blah, blah, blah..if you ever need a kidney...blah, blah, blah. Yadda, yadda, yadda.....

Carrie would have to be the most morbid Coming Of Age flick ever made if it even counted... definitely Horror. If you're gonna count Carrie as COA instead of Horror, then The Shining would be a film about the bonds that families share <IMG SRC="http://www.keenspace.com/forums/smile.gif">There's several Japanese animations that have females in a Coming of Age theme. Off the top of my head I can think of: Nausicaa and Kiki's Delivery Service, both by Hayao Miyazaki.------------------

Best romantic comedy ever? That's easy, it has to be "His Girl Friday" with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. It has, bar none, some of the best dialogue in a movie ever, and puts modern movies of the genre to shame. Don't let the fact that it was made in 1940 fool you, it's as damn good, and near perfect a movie can get.
Along the same lines, "Adam's Rib" is also good."Wings of Desire" is a beautiful German movie about an angel that gives up his calling to love a women. It was remade into a horrible pile of shit by Hollywood with Meg Ryan and Nick Cage. It's not a comedy, but it is good.Then there's "Badlands", with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek(I don't how ya spell it) That wins for best romantic serial killer movie!------------------
