DANG!!! UBB screwed me again! I hit quote on Dub's post and it only posted the last line of his message. Must be some problem with the quote in his message. The same thing happened before, anyway.
1. That's a good one, Dub! I love the Dark Judge! Ever see the one where the Dark Judge capsule fell on the regular Judge capsule? I love how that played out.
2. WHAT THE HECK DID THAT EVEN MEAN?!
3. See #2.
4. Heck, I wouldn't want my little two-year-old (not that I have one...what?!) to hear that kind of language, but I think the networks could at least bleep out the bad words instead of replacing "sh**head" with "spithead," but enough social commentary.
5. I can get into it. I would like to do improv someday, if I can get my brain to think that quickly.
6. If they could just make a sequel to a movie that has unanswered questions (Sword in the Stone could actually use a good sequel), then I'd be fine with Disney. Unfortunately, Disney thinks it doesn't have enough money and only wants to focus on some memorable films (Lion King, Aladdin, Cinderella). Money-grubbing little dorks.
7. Yes, but in Yearbook, there are some really insane people. There are two overly-caffinated cheerleaders (although one of them, hopping around like a rabbit, said coffee is bad for you...okay...), a brother of the editor you has not sanity, and then there's me, the smart, quiet one that surprises everyone when he actuallly says something humorous. Oh, and I have the power to screw up the whole book if I wanted to. Hehe...
8. See #2.
9. If you came from my family, you would, too. And I'm not just trying to be funny.
10. Damn you.
11. Okay! Greliz, it's your fault!

Hmm...Dub actually made an intelligent insult at someone! Charles, I feel bad for you, buddy.

SDF Jer: Get help. Please. We really care about you.
Samanfur: (Blinks, surprised) That's the clearest thing I have heard about censorship ever. Why haven't I thought about it like that? I FEEL STUPID!
Sorry; I just don't know why I didn't think about it like that.
As for Wayne Brady, I don't know what happened to his improv show (which was REALLY good; he's a great singer), but I heard he is getting a talk show.
Plus, I heard Brady is a real jerk in real life; he would not appear at a college in some really small town unless he got a limo and accomadations for his entourage, but it's probably just some National Enquirer bull.
I'll have to read Once and Future King. Hell, I don't care if it does have a sad ending; Disney could do it right if it tried, instead of sugar-coating all of it.
White was a paedophile? That's said.

As for getting this topic back on track (you can all laugh now...), I hope we get some comics soon. I got a four-day weekend and need some entertainment. And Dub's insane topic at tSf isn't gonna hold me over.

Just one note; the original ALIENS toy was taken off the shelves because it was so true to the film, kids were getting scared just WALKING PAST IT ON THE AISLE. That's why I call an action figure!

I spent too much time in censorship debates during my Media Studies days.

True about most moviemakers being successes through hard work and thus have proper judgement to know what is art and will be a success, but then there are some phonies in the industry who just like putting in gross humor and inappropriate material just for shock value instead of working to create a good story. Take #50 in CnW where...well...Chip finds his father, so to speak. There was blood, there was death, but there was heart and emotion to it; it wasn't like Dub was just trying to do this because he has an immature mind that thought, "Hey, wouldn't it be cool to have blood and guts and sh** in this comic!" I know enough people that think that way. Ever hear a pot-head talk about killing babies, little people, and gays in graphic detail? I pray you haven't.
Then again, I guess people who relie on these tricks of attention-seeking as the backbone for the movie can't really be referred to as the "filmakers" of which you are speaking.
Think of all of the things that have been converted from more adult-oriented movies into kiddie-friendly spinoff TV shows. There's Men In Black, Evolution, Starship Troopers, and other shows not made by just Sony. All of these were PG-13, I believe, and yet they were targeted towards younger viewers. Why? Beause they are cartoons and automatically must be for younger viewers. Granted, MiB was a pretty good cartoon (but sort of fell apart towards the end), but there were elements of the movie that could never have gotten into the TV show (Jay's cussing, exterrestial homicide, etc). Got to love corporate money-hungry jerks.
I don't even get why I'm complaining over editing of movies on TV. If I don't like it, why don't I just rent the dang video? Besides, cable is overrated; my parents are paying WAY too much for the crap they're putting on. AT&T bites.
Hmm...wish I had a Media Studies class. I was in a freaking broadcasting and communications arts middle school for three years, and I can't remember EVER covering anything like this. Granted, though, I can operate cameras, teleprompters, graphics generators, and plenty of other TV equipment. I feel proud now.

quote:
Originally posted by Samanfur:
*shrug*
As Men In Black pointed out, the problem with The National Enquirer is that even if they did print the truth, no-one would be able to bring themselves to believe it.

Actually, I didn't see it in the Enquirer; I was just making the reference as it was just pure Hollywood gossip I heard from my mom. Although, I think that lady in Montana really did have that four-headed vampire man-child.

quote:
Originally posted by Samanfur:
There was a lot of it about in the rather repressed Victorian/Edwardian era. Man, I get some books on this stuff.
As for White's comment about the five-year-old...that's creepy and sickening. The times may have been different back then where people may have even looked away from something like that, but it's still a disturbing concept. Uh...I still have bad memories from World History about the prostetution in ancient Rome. "Give a coin to a girl on the steps of the building and you can have her." Nice to see pimping has been going on for a veeeeerrrrrryyyyyy long time. [Rolls eyes repeatedly until they fall out of his head.]

quote:
Originally posted by Samanfur:
Dub cares too much about these strips to leave them be without a good reason. I have a four-day weekend this week, but then I have new classes when I get back to school. I have Precalculus Honors, English III Honors, and Legal Aspects of Business to look forward to; can you say stressed out? At least I'll have Yearbook again and I won't have any work in the last 10 or so weeks. Yeah!
