What's wrong with that kind of ending? And I disagree that an ending like that is a monopoly of American story telling. And even if it is, that's not enough reason for me to dislike a happy ending. I like tragic endings too but the FF ending could have been better. The end was also very abrupt. Suddenly a bird appeared and that's it? They could have wrapped up the ending a bit.
Anyway, as they say. To each his/her own (I hope I got that phrase right).

Regarding Fugli's post:
I agree with you on all points. Except AI that is. And that is only because I haven't seen it yet. So I really cannot give an honest opinion about that movie. But you said it stank? Uh-oh. Maybe it's not worth going to see after all.
And, I didn't know you worked for Disney before! What was your work there? And is it try that they intetionally ripped off Lion King from Kimba the White Lion and stuff?

AI was very well crafted. You might want to see it from a cinematography standpoint. I just don't like having their moral rammed down my throat repeatedly. It was like watching maple syrup boiling down, 20 min too long and sickeningly sweet.
I worked for the Calif park in both custodail and attractions (different times, different seasons). One tends to call it the 'tragic kingdom' after a season or two there. 'Cept maybe for the lifers. They're the saddest bunch of all. One attractions tip... Space mountain is scarrier with the lights on... rickety tracks.

I've taken a ride on Space Mountain back in 1984. Good thing I had my eyes shut the whole time huh?
Why tragic kingdom?
I'll probably watch AI anyway. It's one of those movies I must watch no matter how bad it was reviewed. Like Atlantis.
------------------

Atlantis was an Ok flick. I liked it just fine. I'll probably even buy it when it comes out on DVD or VHS.
"Tragic Kingdom" is what many employees call the "Magic Kingdom" of Disneyland because of the way they are treated. Disney makes billions of $ each year, but they quibble over resnoable rates for labor (casual workers are considered expendable comodities). They stifle personal creativity (they call it the "Disney Way"), and they foster incompetence (overworking working management for too low a wage tends to attract people who cannot make it elsewhere in the business world). They speak of a higher goals (always wear a smile) while promoting back biting lies. It's a good eye opener if you don't get cought in it for too long. I had a plan and got out early.
Case in point: something Disney Corp will deny, but I have seen in action. Money Handling is a big thing for Disney and the security force is ruthless and effective at employee expense. Every night the crew has to count out the cash drawer and package their daily haul for "Cash Control." Nothing is to be left in the til overnight. Security will sometimes go into a shop overnight and place a bill (usually $20) in a cash register to see what happens. If the morning crew finds it and reports it, the person responsible for it the night before gets a disciplinary write up in their file - no one from security will admit the planting of the money. If the morning crew does not report it, security tags the members of that crew for extra surveilence. (If they wrote up the morning crew for not reporting it, they would have to admit that they planted the money in the first place). Before you start talking "Urban Legends" let me point out that I both 1) know someone from the evening shift who got zapped this way and 2) worked graveyard - midnight to 8am - custodial for a summer (when security made their nightly rounds).

Lion King is a rip off of Kimba as much as Atlantis ripped off Nadia. :-)
Yeah, for all the money they make, Disney doesn't treat its employees very well. Even the "imagineers" know that their time there is expendable and fleeting. :/
Whatever it is, it seems to be a strong business model, tho'. :-D

So what about Planet of the Apes?
I saw it and loved it. It was visually amazing, and just a tiny bit hokey. :-) I had a good time with it.

Well, I'm still waiting for it to be shown here. I liked the original POA especially the ending. I don't think I'll be surprised with the ending this time round though but I'll still watch it. Looks cool!

------------------

The CH cameo has been mentioned a lot in pre release hype type things. You can't tell it's him by looking at him huh? Sounds like the Patrick McNee cameo in the Avengers. My ideal CH cameo whould include him getting blown away by an unregistered handgun.

Ahem, That's DeViations, not 'deviant.' There is a difference, however fine that line may be.

I just saw the movie tonight at a Korean theater, and it ROCKED. Luckily, the movie itself was in English, we just had to subconciously ignore the little Korean subtitles at the bottom of the screen.
The movie itself plays a LOT like Final Fantasy VII, at least where the concept of Gaia is concerned. Another similarity would be the intensive use of technology in the movie. I thought the machines and animation mechanics (as well as the machine animations themselves) were very well done.
Here's something interesting about the Spirits that were gathered: To me, each of the 8 Spirits represents an Element of some sort. This concept isn't new to the movie, it was first introduced in the very first Final Fantasy game, in which your characters had to go about and find the 4 mystic Crystals.
Just a thought. I'd list all the spirits, but I probably forgot most of them by now.

Ringjo, I'll probably just watch it when I get back home where it's cheaper.
------------------
