What Happened to...
Here's the message I just posted on www.nightstar.net about the outage. Check back there for news as we get information in.
We hope to have servers up and running within a day or two.
Due to a recent distributed denial of service attack, the Nightstar IRC network has been temporarily disabled. The person(s) responsible have not yet been identified, though the administrators are using every available resource to track down the perpetrator(s). When the perpetrator(s) are discovered, rest assured that they will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
According to Ogredude, regular Nightstar services should be restored within 72 hours. A number of possible plans to prevent further distributed denial of service attacks are being considered by the administrators at this time, and further updates will be avaliable as events continue to unfold. The administration would like to thank everyone for their support during this crisis, and hopes to be able to continue to provide quality IRC services in the very near future.
