lol
Seriously, your characters are always going to contain elements of you in them.
I think you have to be careful not to just make them idealised versions of yourself though.
I've avoided basing the lead singer on myself because I want the strip to be fairly cynical & not too "wish fulfillment", if you see what I mean.
This whole link between an artist & their character is interesting;
Dan Clowes' Ghost World featured Enid Coleslaw which was an anagram of the creator's name.
Plus quite a few film directors seem to base their main characters on themselves to an extent; Tim Burton, David Lynch & David Cronenburg spring to mind.
I can see that Swing & Mooney perhaps reflect different parts of you, though I'm just speculating.
But I'm rambling & my therapist says that's "issue avoidance".
------------------

It is something that I can't stand to see in comics, the creator bases a hero, or a really slick character after themselves.
In my other story (which will hopefully go up next month) I have one character that is blatently based on myself. A sword toting knight of sorts. This is exactly what I despise in others comics. So, to deal with the problem of apparent favoritism and obnoxious fantasy, and to bring a real life element to the story, we see that he's not so great after all. He'd FALLEN from prominence. And is now a murderer, a rapist and an all around coward. And can not be looked at without thinking about it. No matter how much he tries to redeem his actions. Some things don't ever wash off of your name OR your conscience.
But, that's a little off topic. I obviously just wanted to say that.
Back to cartoons... Swing is more based on a friend of mine. But he also is based on my current phase. Mooney being more of my true nature.
I kinda figured that none of the likenesses in your strip were caricatures of you because of your self portrait. But, I'd like to think Mooney doesn't look much like me. More of a personality caricature.
------------------

Perhaps all of the characters reflect facets of my personality in a distant manner.
Am I being evasive?
Probably.
