Have to say I'm with Viron on this one.
If he were given to sardonic humor, he could at least say that they provide him with steady work...
(Also left a response in the ... hrm, I think it's the Oct. 18th topic.)
-Eric Schissel

He would still prefer if they didn't refer to just about everything short of a cut throat as 'nothing'. Which I can understand. But one has to see the warriors' side of it, too. They've seen people survive worse without help.

On the third hand (I don't like where that thought is going.) Shadowrose may think he's only suffered a bruise, but unless he's been involved in situations like this before, there may be side-effects to unsuccessful possession attempts by very angry werewolf-ghosts (half-grin... I'm more serious here than I seem and thinking more generally than this particular case anyhow) that he just doesn't know about... the less well-known the injury/pathogen the better-than-usual the reasons doctors have for putting patients under observation which is something I suspect they typically want to do anyway...
But getting back to the topic (which for me is always a wrench (and other mechanical tools?) and I know it!) it's certainly easy for either group (warriors or healers) to overreact in the situation as laid-out (or similar ones) and I do see, I believe, what you mean.
Seeing Zvee again on Tuesday leads me to await further developments in that 'zelle's internal conflicts with interest. A bit curious, too, what "henny" means (from the caption some while back), but I suspect I can look that up
-Eric Schissel

Shadow's no Paladin, he can lie if he wants to. And he knows it's more than a bruise, but he didn't want to admit it, since whilst it surely hurt, it wasn't -that- bad, and if he could stand it and not have Viron go over it (and scold him for not having bandaged his barely-healed arm, and for being up and about, and for sleeping to little, and a dozen more reasons... What can I say, he's a Healer) he rather do so.
'Henny' isn't likely to be a word, I derieved it from the expression "mother-hen", and if it's not a proper word, well... Artistic license. *snicker*
Viron is SUCH a strong old man, I expect Zvee to be a bit more than the weight of a gazelle, which would be several hundred pounds. On the other hand, strength would be the least of what that man hides...

------------------

There is that. Though speaking purely "practically," the more he does follow healer's instructions, the sooner he can be at guard duty. (If his conscious mind and the rest of him are at entire agreement about wanting to return to the scene of the crime asap, that is. Part of him might want a break, part of him may not want to admit it. Most of me has no clue what he's talking about.)

quote:

Ah. Ok. That makes sense. (Somehow at the time I thought it meant "alert", as in the slang expressions involving "spring chicken". Oh, 'Rose knows as much as he needs to know about that "bruise". He's stood down a Dark Mythic, after all, and that should have caused a few pretty nasty mental "bruises" along with the physical ones. And I don't think he had his Gift freed at that time, either.
*giggle* "Practically" for normal humans isn't always for 'Rose. He hates being helpless, bed-bound, etc. If he can't make himself useful, he gets frustrated enough to do the most harmful useful thing he can think of. In this case, probably WALKING to town to pick up mail or something equally stupid.
Puns are good. Except for puns you've heard before, but forgotten, and then explain very stupidly. Dumb, dumb English Word test.
Ah, well, I guess I'll be one of the better sophomores, so I shouldn't complain...
Viron is... Special. It may be that him being Cursed into a 'taur had something to do with it, but he still is a lot stronger than his build and age would suggest even outside Haven.

------------------

But sometimes a kernel of wisdom: some liars value (certain, or certain kinds of) truth(s) very deeply indeed... (but still I agree, an unfair way to encapsulate 'Rose.)
(And where, exactly, -does- July 21st take place... but now, anyhow, I see that we actually saw Nequii get abducted. And I didn't understand it when it happened. Gah. I am in all honesty beginning to think that I would not know a clue if it came up and bit me. (I hope it's within fair use limitations to near-quote Pratchett: "but that fellow wouldn't know a troll if it stepped on him.' 'Oh, I'm quite sure he would,' the corporal helpfully interjected. 'Some of them weigh as much as a ton.'")
(Anyhow, while looking for something else I didn't find to help me fill in the pieces in a theory I had and have decided is probably rather obtuse in its way, I did some archive-searching and found, variously, where I hadn't understood any of their significance before, Nequii's riding Keiddi, Nequii being grabbed by his mother in order to stop Cazhar, Jaq escorting the diplomat's party into Haven (I hadn't recognized her as Jaq, but had thought that was yet another new character, like the diplomat and Azyr, for some reason...), Jaq taunting Erinzo and 'Rose at dinner (if she has any designs on 'Rose as you mentioned might possibly be the case in the 'Zine thread then I really wonder how she thinks he takes her remark and how she meant it... To be somewhat more blunt: sometimes, according to movies & TV and perhaps even real life, one can successfully seduce someone who one has previously attempted to humiliate (in the eyes/opinions only of most of the others in the room at the time, but those others were also family, associates, friends, and people whose opinions may well matter at least somewhat to Erinzo, Shadowrose or both- I believe this has already borne out...) But one certainly hasn't made it easier for oneself... ah well. Random thoughts that are probably inappropriate for this thread; feel free to edit them out if you deem right. )
Rather scattershot and nothing bearing on what I was looking for (a suspicion I had that Viron might have been asking Erinzo about something else as well,) but all going so far as to remind me that I like something (book, comic, music, ...) that has enough in it that it's worth rereading. Thanks. (The other lesson is that I'm a really bad first-time-through reader, tending towards skimming, but I'm trying to think positively here.)

Yay, they're up!
Saturday: *tries to remember if he's seen Nequii with a pendant before. Especially one that looks vaguely suspiciously slightly amber-like. And is that Sylver he's wishing-well in the distance? It would seem so. (While Fenni and Erinzo are apparently arguing in the background and Viron is - it seems - off in the distance.)*
Sunday: nice effect overall. Bottles of dark unicorn blood, I presume the caption means. Fenni & Robin are moving out to -where-?... (and why?- well, something to find out later...) and I hope to hear on Tuesday just what it is that Nequii has to say, though I have a rough clue (maybe tentatively). (Sylver only threatened to let his souls loose, and didn't have a reason to carry out his threat; so I do wish I had a clue how Irooz got loose, still...; a guess on my part about too much magical energy unleashed is only a guess...)

It can be a good thing, yes, but usually, it is just to harm for him. After the Slice-of-life-should-have-been-slash fic I wrote a short time ago (and that will go up along with the rest of LaL when I get the 'Space version up, currently aviable through clicking the link that says "Alexandra" in my sig, and going back a number of days), he has a very good reason to stay in bed, recovering from hypothermia, and cut pads on his feet, from snowcrust. But is he doing that? Oh, no.
The reason for the late Saturday comic was pure laziness, I should have finished it Friday, but was too hyper to sit down and ink. And the Sunday strip (that may be completely inked and colored later, but isn't atm...) I would have finished yesterday, but I was hardly home all day, first out hunting equitation equipment and a headset, then at my grandmother's birthday celebration.
The creature Nequii is referring to as "old friend" is a salamander, fire elemental. She's talking to one in the strip where Irooz first showed up and using three of them as focus when speaking to Sah' in those strips, too. Fenni and Viron are trying (unsuccessfully, I may add) to get Erinzo to talk about the exact relation between him and Shadowrose. Fenni because she's nosy, and Viron because he doesn't quite approve of a relationship, since those two are a bit too closely related for his comfort.
*snicker* Bottles of poison, in general. He collects poison and edged weapons. And crossbows. Don't ask me why, he likes crossbows. *snicker* You'll see what it is that Nequii has to say, when the time comes.
And Robin already mentioned where she and Fen were moving, didn't she? As to why... However good friends they may be, 'Rose is male, and it's a bit of strain of Robin to have him around all the time. They always intended to get moved somewhere else, but only 'Rose had free space, as it were when they arrived.

Erinzo as well.
(Well, you'd said you'd wanted to do a storyline in which a number of the "main" characters were called off somewhere, to give some of the others more time for development- it only takes me about half a year to see that perhaps this is what became of that idea and then again perhaps not?)

I'll wake up with a black rose nailed to my door. Can live with that, black roses are pretty.
Hmm... The one that ripped his wings off, his father, his father's lover, Sah' (although he didn't go through with that...), a few unimportant people. So, quite a few.
And 'Rose wants me to tell you he adored his father.
This is, indeed, the "main characters go far, far, away so they don't take ALL the spotlight time" storyline. I'm going to do another storyline where 'Rose and Jaq are called off to Jaqueleen's parents, but they'll still be in a few strips then, only not Cursed, since they'll be outside Haven. Still in the idea stage, though.

Hmm... The one that ripped his wings off, his father, his father's lover, Sah' (although he didn't go through with that...), a few unimportant people. So, quite a few.
And 'Rose wants me to tell you he adored his father.

My mistake and my very sincerest apologies...

quote:

This is, indeed, the "main characters go far, far, away so they don't take ALL the spotlight time" storyline. I'm going to do another storyline where 'Rose and Jaq are called off to Jaqueleen's parents, but they'll still be in a few strips then, only not Cursed, since they'll be outside Haven. Still in the idea stage, though.

Ah. I wonder why 'Rose, in particular, is to go with Jaq- (so far as plot is concerned, that is, unless I've forgotten that their friendship is established and she asks for his company out of same- but will find out, when the arc runs. Sounds promising.)
-Eric Schissel

'Rose, in particular, is to go with Jaq because Sah' sends him off with Jaq. Or because Jaq's gotten in her head to try and seduce him, I'm not quite sure yet. Wouldn't surprise me if she has...
The one that ripped his wings off, yes. One of the few people he didn't manage to finish off. Someone oh, 'forgot' to tell him the man in question was faerie, and said man decided to teach the halfblood a lesson. OMW 1-3, it's mentioned, somewhere in the beginning, I think when he climbs on the wall around the garden.

------------------

 Yep, sounds promising.
(Rereading) Ah, not an arc about 'Rose and Jaq visiting Jaq's parents, but an arc about Haven while 'Rose and Jaq are visiting Jaq's parents, though 'Rose and Jaq will be visible in "human form" for an ep or a few. Gotcha

Gotcha.
Something of a puzzlement, to me, then (repeating myself I guess), how person A can even consider having any sort of relationship with (or, if they're less farsighted about it, getting something from) person B, on the one hand; and offhandedly insult someone person B cares about, on the other, as if it were no mind and no matter.
If the storyline you mentioned might happen, happens after "Holy Clash", I expect Jaq to wish she'd never chosen 'Rose for a traveling companion and for her ears to be ringing (that, or the silent treatment) but what in goodness' name do I know...

quote:

Most of the other storylines mentioned are happening, at least the ones of more serious nature. And Kit's Karaoke Machine, since I need that one to introduce someone that's going to be in Fenni's Quest. *giggle* This storyline is stretching, likely going to turn out to last a year or more.

This is good news.

quote:

That joke is classic. But, yes, unfair. (Put it down, 'Scii, I'm not going to say anything!) Shadowrose isn't half as false as most Assassins.
I have no doubts that Viron has been asking Erinzo about everything between heaven and hell, nevermind the fact 'Rinzo is likely to have been very uneager to answer anything at all.

I may as well say it, though I couldn't find what I was looking for so I don't recall if it was Erinzo or Rel who did the Night Guard planning - I was wondering if Viron was going to take Erinzo to task for (future, suspected by Viron and unfair to 'Rinzo, but suspected for twining reasons, from healer training, from knowing 'Rose, ?) conspiracy with 'Rose to let 'Rose go back on Guard shifts before he was quite well enough to do so...
Silly theory on my part, as I said, but then I think it came to my mind as I couldn't fall asleep. I should definitely if not -stop- listening to such things at least very much filter them more. Still, it gave me an excuse to archive-forage.

quote:

And I'd tend to agree that things that bear rereading are better than those that are not. A lot better.

Very generally and as a rule, I agree strongly *g* (I hedge not as a joke but because yes, exceptions either way, but still!).
Some of the archive-foraging was pleasant not because it helped me understand the main lines of the plot but (for instance and to give an example) one episode (I remembered the date last night and will have to find it again) somewhat reversed the general lowering trend my overall sympathy for Relevan has been registering. E.g., of course... but I like details.

*snicker* Well, she's Jaqueleen. Partially modelled after the infamous bimbo five in my brother's class, and nobody ever blamed them of anything remotely resembling tact.
'Rose is likely to be painfully civil, and act as if he were back in his old profession (ie sleeping fully dressed and with a dagger under his pillow, wariness incarnate), if anything. "Oh, but Lady Jaqueleen, surely you shouldn't...". *giggle* He's good at that.
Officially 'tis Rel that does it. In practise, he gets his brother to do it for him, which just about everyone knows.
Seeing as Viron thinks the same things as rest of Haven (that may or may not be true), that there's something more than friendship between 'Rose and his nephew, I don't think he'd suspect Erinzo for trying to get 'Rose out on the Border early, rather the opposite, if anything.
And 'Rose takes a fair deal more Guard shifts than he's scheduled to, simply showing up and telling the person out to go in.
It's something I'm trying to steal from the Pini's (of ElfQuest, best comic I've ever read, even as I don't have all of them) is how characters act on motivation rather than on being 'good' or 'bad'. Well except for Dark Unicorns and similar, but their personality is based on evil, so they're still sorta acting on motivation.
