How are you doing, comic-wise?
Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
I solved something that was bothering me about the ending to my second book today. It feels good.
No one else will have any idea what this refers to for at least 2-3 years, however.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
I'm kind of jumping around my story line. I've got about 40 pages to go. The next ten pages in my comic are completely laid out (but not finished artwork). And ten pages at the end are in a similar state, with another six in in various places in the chronology. So now what I'm doing is slowly filling in the gaps.
It's pretty exciting to be at this stage, to actually see a light at the end of the tunnel. There's a lot of work left, but it's definitely feeling like every day I make a colossal leap forward.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
I just got back into plotting the first pages of chapter 2 (or three) and I didn't realize it but I dropped my flash drive with all my art and drafts on the street in front of my office... I found it sitting there today unmolested and went nuts. WHEW.
Then I went into work, got online and and promptly goofed off. Been reading so many good comics that I cannot wait to start drawing again (god especially Loud Era omg cuddly that comic. THAT COMIC).

I feel like sprite comics are written in some kind of cuneiform, with a grammar and syntax entirely foreign and impenetrable to me.

My blog's been getting a lot of clicks from this Something Awful thread, but it looks like you can't read threads there unless you pay $10 or something? Does anyone here have an SA account and can fill me in on what they're talking about over there?

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
I linked to you there. I'll post some quotes, it's generally positive.LibertyCabbage wrote:My blog's been getting a lot of clicks from this Something Awful thread, but it looks like you can't read threads there unless you pay $10 or something? I reply:Random question - anyone know of any good webcomic discussion/review sites or forums besides this one?
I mean, there's Webcomic Overlook, which is pretty decent, and I guess there's Tangents if I ever want to read someone fawn over the latest page of Megatokyo or whatever, but are there any other ones out there?
Original dude replies:The Webcomic Police have a small group of contributors who give thoughtful reviews on very varied comics, many of which are low-key or small audience comics that haven't had much (if any) press.
Different dude:Yeah, I visited that site once, and was immediately turned off by the site design. There's such a thing as committing too much to a gimmick.
I respond:FWIW, The Webcomic Police site is kinda interesting. It came from some guy posting reviews on a thread on some forum. I think it's smarter than most.
I wasn't aware that the paywall was still up, but looks like I was right about you finding out about it either way.Yeah, it was pretty cool. He was bored at work so just started writing reviews for comics in his spare time. Then had amassed a bunch of them and was like "Hey guys, I think I'm gonna put a blog together." I think most people set out the opposite way- "Let me do a blog! Oh, wait, I need to make some content," and end up reviewing a handful of comics before burning out.
(Of course it helps that there's other contributors, but the majority of the reviews are still LibertyCabbage's.)
I can understand how the design can seem overwhelming. The chunk of widgets at the top used to take up so much space that you couldn't even see any of the actual content above the fold, but after it was pointed out to him, he changed it. I don't know much about site design, but it does kind of seme like the theme is front-and-center instead of the content. I'll mention that to LC sometime, though he might check his referral links and see this commentary anyway.
Then it shifted to talking about how bad the "Shitty Webcomics" tumblr is.

That was nice of ya. The blog got a pretty good traffic spike from the link.

It's good to get some feedback like this. It got me thinking about the layout again, and I'll probably make some changes to the site soon.I don't know much about site design, but it does kind of seme like the theme is front-and-center instead of the content. That's actually not true anymore. The last three months had an average of 12 posts a month, while I've only been making four posts a month. You're right, though, that I've probably written the majority of the posts since the blog started last year, as there were already about 90 entries posted by the time I opened the blog up to contributors in March.(Of course it helps that there's other contributors, but the majority of the reviews are still LibertyCabbage's.)
I'm not surprised. Then it shifted to talking about how bad the "Shitty Webcomics" tumblr is.

I cannot believe that it is 2013 and people still pay money to participate in those forums. S'funny though, not too long ago I was able to read them when they were talking about SCP stuff. Every time someone posted "gently caress" instead of FUCK I made an involuntary fist and had a momentary daydream about grabbing the front bumper of that person's car and just flipping it into the air with my rage-fueled super strength while they said "aaaaah I regret my poor life choices"

Once you log in, it's fucks, shits, and whatever other words as far as the eye can see.
The amusement I've had there is highly worth the 10$ I paid for the original account, and the 10$ archive access upgrade. The paywall tends to make it easier to keep out people who just don't know how to make a good post, and sets the bar high for only the most amusing and dedicated of trolls.

I feel slightly more relieved to know that wasn't some silly meme. Still though. All the good people who post there are people I get to interact with outside of that ridiculous paywall. Also SA is terrible.

To each their own, I suppose. I find it preferable to other vast nerd watering holes (like Reddit), but I mostly just stick around the comic-related areas, PYF nonsense timewasters, and some of the "real people" goop in the advice forum and the whining forum.

I love you for being the old person around here who knows me as a creepy sloth instead of a tentacle monster <3
On the subject of where I am in comics... OH MAN I have written and sketched and then rewritten and resketched the first pages of my next chapter a dozen times. I really need to make this a tighter story since it took me 50 some pages to get this far when I was only expecting around half that. And writing page by page caused a lot of missteps. I might have to get this whole chapter plotted before drawing anything. This is the first time I've found the writing aspect to be the hard part.
