I like the little tuft of hair on top to enhance your manliness.

You may better know them as the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of Band of Brothers fame. That's right, THAT 101st.

Re: Livejournal Thread 4: Can't kill what's already dead ins
This is kind of a silly thing, but as an easily affected person, I am easily affected.
A few months ago I had donated some money to Planned Parenthood, which I was pleased about, no regrets there.
But now I'm getting the phone calls asking for more money
I know that's their job to try and get more, but I wish I wasn't automatically on that call list. I can opt out but it's probably going to be a difficult multi-step thing to discoruage you from opting out.
I was feeling so happy that I was charitable, too! Now I almost wish I hadn't done it.
Telephone fundraising calls- taking the wind out of my donating sails.

As a person who used to work as a telephonic fundraiser, all you need to say is "Thank you but please do not call me anymore and remove me from your list." That's all you need to say and they are legally obligated to remove you from their calling list.

Re: Livejournal Thread 4: Can't kill what's already dead ins
We frequently get stopped in the street on Saturday mornings by people wanting to tell us about their charity. We must look like charitable, happy people, which we are, but every time they stop us I get less and less polite. We're in town to do our shopping, nothing more and are usually running late to meet the in-laws in the car park. The last thing we need is to stand there looking politely uninterested about saving the common pidgen from becoming endangered. One woman asked if we liked tigers, I said: "Not personally", she then started naming animals like polar bears and other umbrella species that actually (after 3 years of an ecology degree learning that species are insignificant fleeting things) I don't care about. Another day I almost yelled at college student doing a project for a tourism module, felt bad about that.
Doesn't seem to be as many about lately, so maybe the council got complaints.
We gave money to the British Red Cross once and since then they keep sending us free gifts, they've probably spent more money on pens and coasters and shopping bags than we gave them in the first place.

Yeah, what I don't like is the guilt-tripping. I'm happy to support charities so I usually tell them "I already support a charity of my choice", I mean they can't expect me to donate to every single cause out there.
What I do like, personally, is things like comedy for charity - e.g. Comic Relief and that sort of thing. Though sometimes when you see celebrities asking the general public to make donations it makes you wonder... I mean those people earn in a day what I earn in a year, surely the main responsibility to fight poverty should be with the "1%"...but that's a whole different story I guess.
Anyway, I've just noticed that robotthepirate lives in my neighbour county. Anyone else in the Midlands region?

I live in the glorious sh*thole of Coventry.
Though I did actually live in Staffordshire for about half a year, in the great city of Lichfield!
So how far away are you...in miles if you don't want to say the place?

Whenever I go to the corner 5&10 for a lunchtime can of ravioli, they always ask if I'd like to donate any change for a literacy program for kids. I always feel kind of like a douche when I say "not today", because it implies that I like to keep kids shoeless and uneducated.Mo wrote:Yeah, what I don't like is the guilt-tripping.
