Hey, just to let you know that I updated your URL on the fantasy dropdown. Sorry it took me a little while to get it done, but 'tis exam season, you know.
------------------

Welcome to the Dedos forum. Feel free to chat about whatever strikes your fancy. Like Elfquest for instance. For some reason, I just never got into it. Go figure.

Dave Sim is very good. Asterix was never very big here in the States, but I have seen some issues.
I like and was influenced by manga as well as American comics while growing up. Katsuhiro Otomo, Shirow Masamune, Frank Miller, and Neil Gaiman all played a big role in my love of comics. My favorite fantasy author is Fritz Leiber of "Fafhrd & Gray Mouser" fame.
I worked on the new page for hours yesterday, but it was quicker than the previous. I hope that means I'm getting better! =)

Very cool story there, Reinder! When I look at your comics, I am reminded just how varied the world is. There are so many styles, art, story and comic out there that it is amazing. Yours is a very 'European' flavor to me. It's great!
Have you seen the Fafhrd & Gray mouser comic by Mike Mignola (and I forgot the writer)? It is simply amazing stuff! A 4-issue presitge format series... I love it.

I'm sure there are tons of online comic stores, but a quick search at http://www.milehighcomics.com/ for "fafhrd" revealed that they had the first issue (of 4) for like $2.10.. (now, shipping int'l is $12, so it wouldn't be worth it for just one... - :P)
------------------

Or so I thought.
On the third hand, Masamune Shirow certainly is one of my all-time favourites. I've been wanting to do a "Shirow-SF" style story for years, but never found anybody who wanted it (I'm a writer - one of those parasites that can't draw but rely on others to do the real work. ) Will Shirow ever get around to do Appleseed 5, btw? There were rumours a few years back, but I've been out of touch with the grapewine.
On the fourth hand, I really don't know about a Ffhrad/Mouser comic --- there's some texts that create such strong mental images and moods that they really should not be dilluted by another artist's impressions. But maybe I'm missing something great?
Geir
[This message has been edited by Geir (edited 12-12-2000).]

Hahaha, well, it took me long enough to get the layouts of the other pages just right. I'm going to need to get more comfortable with my style and publishing on time first, when I become semi-skilled in all that, then I can think about moving to a more complex message board with cool avatars! =) But yeah, I want to draw all these cool things for everyone..

Geir:
First Hand) Thank you very much! Hopefully the grip on your ears isn't TOO tight, but I don't plan on letting go any time soon!
Second Hand) Was it ever underground? Hehe, what Elfquest books would you recommend?
Third Hand) (more than 2 hands??) We could start our own little Shirow fan club here. I haven't heard of Book V, but would be first in line to get it when it came out!!
Fourth and final hand)You won't be disappointed. They aren't new, liberal interpretations, they are some of Leiber's stories told in comic form, with beautiful, gorgeous art. Try it, you'll like it.

------------------

heehee, i'm finally gonna post!! i really like the comic, the elfy guy is cute. you mentioned asterix in an earlier post... when i was a kid, my dad read me a lot of french comics (i couldn't read them myself, cuz they were in french), so i've actually seen a lot of that. hm... i don't have much else to say, just wanted to assure you that i'm reading yer comic. hope yer christmas cookies turn out spiffy.
hey wait! someone mentioned tolkien! ahem... i really dislike tolkien. in my opinion, lord of the rings is chauvanist, racist, and promotes social stature as the value of self-worth. check out the characters in that book. the kings and wizards of 'noble' lineage (and who are obnoxiously free of vice) are the only ones who are given respect and honor, except for the hobbits, who represent the lower classes and are content to live small lives in servitude to the king. you'll also notice that women in the book only find happiness through MARRIAGE. okay, enough ranting, good job with the comic, good luck. ^_^

Just sticking my neck where it doesn't belong, but...
If your looking for the gritty elfquest try,
Book 4: Quest's End, the Palace war, trolls and elves fight it out so two-edge can solve his identity crisis. Where the elves come from revealed.
Book 8: Kings of the Broken Wheel, Rayek steals Leetah, Skywize and Cutters Children, and the Pallace in an atempt to merge with the highones in the future, and prevent their marooning on Abode. Causing all the elves to possibly cease to exist.
Book9: Rouges Curse, Angst brooding abbounds.
Book9c: Kahvi, Goback Chieftess, daugter of mad Two Spear, Nuff Said.
Books10,11,12,12a: Interesting, love, death, war, ect.
That covers most of the major events in the World of Two Moons. You'll lose some setup and charachter development, involving most all charachters.
Also the books are now being reprinted in all black and white, and are all between 12 and 14 dollars 140+ pages. Also Pulick libraries will have most up to 8

Thanks for the tip, Wyrmul. It's not that I really had anything in particular against the Pinis, but just never found my way into their world. It always helps when you have a guide!
I'll see if I can get my hands on those sometime... 'where elves come from' sounds interesting!!
------------------

I just thought I'd bump this up so I could mention that I'm doing a Cerebus-influenced story starting tomorrow. It's called "The Faerie and the Earth-Pig" and I'm sure some of you will enjoy it. Opening page in color!
