I usually have the reverse problem. Some music will randomly pop into my head, but it's only there for a couple minutes or so. It bugs me if it was a song that I know I've heard before but couldn't identify.

Oh I can get horrible with this. A song I've haven't heard for years will suddenly pop into my head, and it will be there for DAYS. I also go through reoccurring songs that pop into my head, that will stay there for like an hour then come back over and over again. It drives my friends nuts when I start belting out random stuff. but its my curse.

Spider's Web by Katie Melua, go go go!

Factoid: That song that's stuck in your head is called a hanauta (nose song) in Japanese. Apparently it's the same word as 'hum'. It just happens to stay in your head. Neat, huh?

My solution for when i get a song stuck in my head, especially when it's a horrible tune i don't like, is to get my MP3 player and run a playlist of completely different tunes. It basically fixes the problem the moment i press play.

In the music industry songs are manufactured to get stuck in your head. Hooks are engineered so you want to buy the song to relieve your pain I figure.

The particular song stuck in my head is out of the 20's wherein I believe every song was written for maximum whistling potential, so this is probably a correct assumption.

My favorite "get a song out of your head" cure is to sing Amazing Grace to the tune of the Gilligan's Island theme.

now I'm curious. is it country or jazz? 20's/30's are my favourite time periods.

I'd say it's probably closer to pop music of the time, I suppose an upbeat honky-tonk. Meadow Lark, by Adrian Schubert & Orchestra :)

Nah, about a decade or two post-ragtime peak (depending on when you think Disco-er, I mean Ragtime, died).

If it's an unwanted song it's usually stuck there because I've heard a part of it. Listening to the whole thing solves the problem for me.

Yup, Mastermind, that's how it started.

However, now I'm having the reverse scenario. I'm editing a movie that has three songs in it, and because I've been working on it so long they are just stuck in my head. They are good songs, like, the kind that you hear them and start whistling along and tapping your foot and so forth, but I don't want them there when I try to go to bed at night D:

Is it not from the Baker's Wife Musical, or am I thinking of something else... I have the Sarah Brightman version around here somewhere. Granted I have a lot of Sarah Brightman songs around here.

If everything else fails, try some really loud gabber. It might not help but at least it will disable your brain.

It might be, I'm not familiar with that show. I'll see if I can find a Youtube video of Baker's Wife, whether they match.
