Irony, if McDuffies uses this technique and accidentally bans himself.

That was my first thought as well.

Click "users and groups" at the top tab, then "Ban IPs" on the left side. Then paste that number in there. Be VERY sure you got it exactly right and that there are NO SPACES in it. Leaving in a space can break the board.

Sadly this is going to get MUCH harder to do when IPv6 rolls out and IP addresses become more plentiful.
I don't think I'd recommend going this far, at least not yet. If regular bannings don't work then we'll see about upping our firepower.

Yeah... I certainly wouldn't like liberally banning Eastern European spammers, I for one hate when I go to some site for the first time and find that IP from which I'm coming has been banned (anyways most of people in Eastern Europe and Russia do speak english though granted, odds of them visiting smaller forums aren't too high). If the need arises, I'll leave that kind of stuff to admins.

They've made some moves outside of general Discussion it seems. The almost unused forum games section of the forums has suffered a few attacks.

Other forums have been attacked for a long time, Games was actually the first one to get spammed.

McDuffies, could you just take a month out of your real life and walk around all of Eastern Europe beating up anybody that looks like they're running a spam operation? I think this could prove to be our most effective option.

If this isn't already the premise of a cheesy action movie, it needs to be.

Well, Seagal does add star power and rugged manliness, but then you run the risk of the movie ending in a thirty-minute monologue on the dangers of improperly disposing of old Captain Planet videos.

Holy crap. Two solid pages of spam posts. It seems that our fears of a Terminator-style robot onslaught have been realized.
