Your hopes, your fears, what brought you to this broken-down one-horse end of the internet.
Oh, that stuff. Well, I figured that the chances of finding real employment were getting slimmer every day, so I should try and so something with the creativity that everyone tells me I have. Since I'm a fan of webcomics, it was naturally the first thing I thought of doing. Comicgenesis seemed like the best place to learn the ins and outs of webcomicking.
Hopes: sustainable fuel sources, financial independence, the death of Frank Miller
Fears: Living with my parents forever, the Avengers movie being terrible, tiny dogs with huge eyes

Yeah, I've noticed how eerily empty the Techniques and Pitching forums are.

Well, thats because we don't actually need to 'practice.' Those of us in the know have Secret Techniques of Arcane Mystery. Delve deeeeep into the forums, and perhaps one day you, too, shall tap into the untold raw power of these secrets. :shifty:

webcomics != financial dependence

We should be talking about actual webcomics more.
However, remember what Gilliam said when they asked him what you have to learn to be a director. He said that you don't have to know much about directing, but that you have to read a lot about various subjects, because you can only be a good storyteller if you have something to say, and having something to say comes with knowledge.
So in a very roundabout way, those threads about movies and books are helping you create webcomics too. Provided, of course, that you pick up classy things that I say, and not nerdy fantasy things.

Shit, my webcomic has been dead for 3 years now. I killed it. I went and got a job that pays awesome.

meanwhile at the moment my webcomic is, while meager, my only contribution to my family's income.

"Reticulating Splines" makes me think of a recumbent bicycle.

Not sure why.

Ooh, is this like one of those word association games?

"Recumbent bicycle" makes me think about unicycling manitees.
This is going in my notebook titled "Things I Didn't Know about Surface Dwellers."

The name Martin makes me think of Martin Lemelman, one of my Profs from college.

If my wife had hyphenated her last name, it would be Martin-Lawrence.

Don't think we didn't consider it.

Martin Lemelman makes me think of Mr. Lemonman, a monster I made up when I was five and had recurring nightmares about.

No. The trauma is still too fresh.
Mr. Lemonman could make himself look like members of my family to fool me, but if he stayed like that for too long, his head would slowly get big and yellow.
