***Advertisement*** Banner Glitch? [SOLVED]

Post by Derek Dragomir »

I coded the advertisement to show up at the bottom of the page, and it does... but there's a second advertisement banner right on top of "today's page". I checked if I had another ***Advertisement***, but I only found the one I coded at the bottom. I thought I'd remove the one at the bottom to see if they were somehow related to eachother. The result was that the bottom Advertisement was gone, but the one on top of "today's page" is still there even though there is no ***Advertisement*** codes on the code page. Could this be a glitch with the ***todays_comics*** code? The reason why I suspect this is because, well, the banner and the page are practically touching eachother (ew...), and I noticed a little link at the bottom of the "today's page" that says Hosted on Comicgenesis.

So what do you think? Do I have to let the rabie-infected Mudkipz out on this one?

No, that's supposed to happen.

The ToS clearly state that the Ad needs to be at the top of the page (specifically, "above the fold"). If the server does not find the ***advertisement*** keentag in the top section of the code then it will add it in for you. If you want the Ad to be at the bottom (or removed altogether) then you'd need to either pay to have it removed (contact KeenSpot Entertainment, I think) or switch to paid hosting (which may be easier or harder depending on what you are trying to do).

Addendum on "above the fold" - the term "above the fold" (when talking about web pages) means that it is visible without scrolling. So if someone has a monitor with a resolution of 1024 x 758 then something is "above the fold" if it appears in the top 700 pixels (58 or so would be lost to the menu and other bits depending on browser and OS). Since there is no way for the server to know exactly what specs the end reader is going to have, "above the fold" means "above the comic". So if the server finds the ***todays_comic*** keentag before it finds the ***advertisement*** keentag, it will add it in.

Note that this is one of the reasons comics with frames have a lot of trouble.

What you may want to do is to put the ad at the very top (and put it outside your comic's page design) or incorporate it into the design itself. Post again if you have any questions.

Ah, I see. I used to have the banner at the very top of the page until recently when I decided to change the site a little. The only reason why I was confused about it was because I remembered seeing some other comic sites (hosted by comicgenesis, but I can't remember what their names were) that had the ad banner at the bottom.

Anyways, question has been cleared. I shall leave the ***todays_comics*** tag to take care of the banner for me. Thanks.
