Screw society and it's mores. I enjoy my individuality, and the people on this board, regardless of age. I will not let anybody's idea of who it is appropriate to hang out with stop me. becuase society is stupid. really, really stupid. also, I am me, and I reserve the right to be me regardless of who doesn't like it.

That makes it sound like you won't ever play any console games when you hit 30 because everyone you play with is going to be a immature highschooler.CJBurgandy wrote:thank you for playing the Tell me what Social Disorder you have Game. I for one have no problem playing games with others, regardless of their age, but I draw the line early on if someone thinks they might want to know me better:
"I have no intentions of seeing you in real life, I will not give you my name, phone number or email address, and I'm playing this game for fun, not to find people to hang out with in real life/date/do-questionable-acts-with."
If they still want to know me better after that, I've put no false expectations in their mind. I really do not care to have 16 year olds want me to adopt them from their abusive parents anymore than I want further marriage proposals. It's bad enough that I get questions about why I have a significant other that I don't live with and never get to see.
At some point I just give up. I don't really want to join any new communities, nor do I want to go outside and meet real people. I'm done. I'm near 30, there's nothing else to do.

Re: An observation, and a question.
This is not a CJ roast. If it was, I would have bar-b-que sauce, we'd have snowboarding, and there would be beer.
There are times when the age thing really does matter. A 30-something newly walking into a group of 15-20 year olds to hang out with them, frankly IS a little weird. You expect people to have friends within a few years of their own age and worry why a mature 30-something is looking to newly minted adults as friends.
It's a lot less weird when different age groups get together and share a common interest. Bowling clubs, knitting clubs, car shows, arcades, gun shows, garage saleing, swim clubs, etcetera... all places where different ages mix, not weirdly, to share a common interest. Ditto comics.
CJ has aged, and the demographic for comics hasn't. If that makes her feel uncomfortable now, well that's just who she is, and we shouldn't bitch about it, nor take her feelings as written law everyone else has to follow.
Good grief. It's like a bunch of teenagers and twenty-somethings in here, I swear.

Re: An observation, and a question.
I don't think I'll have changed when I'll hit the 30s (despite the fact that it scares me senseless and that I hate time itself). Sure, to some it may be weird to see someone still playing games and read comics after 25, but why? Isn't it better that he or she does something he or she enjoys rather than be forced to just listen to tv and go to sleep at 10?
Life is made of choices and discoveries, we choose what we want to be and do in life and associate with others who has similar goals and passions, no matter what age they are. We may act as pupils or as mentors, bonds are created and such. If we are honest in our intention, friendship may flourish, in other case even love can bloom (just look at Vort and Michelle).
Sure, sometimes "dramageddon" may happen, but with time, those links can be repaired.
While what I say may not make much sense, all I can say and do is this : enjoy life! No matter the age, no matter the trouble, just enjoy living.

Hey, now...it's not so much about CJ personally as much as it is that I (cuz I can only speak for myself) get more than a little defensive when someone tells me what I'm "supposed" to do, think, or feel.Rkolter wrote:This is not a CJ roast. Ah, but see...that latter bit is how it came across: written law everyone else has to follow. That's the part that has me, at the very least, a smidge cranky about it. I've never been one to take "shoulds" lightly when not conforming doesn't result in harm, and the way CJ put it came off as non-negotiable social rulebookery.CJ has aged, and the demographic for comics hasn't. Re: An observation, and a question.
The above comment, quoted in whole, does not sound like CJ is trying to dictate rules for others to follow. She's quite clearly explaining her own reasons for not posting quite so much. In fact, it is only when she is accused of saying nobody should have any fun after age 30, does she elaborate at all.CJBurgandy wrote:just my 2 cents on the chat drama thing. I don't think that's why so many people don't post anymore at all. I think it's just why people don't really go to the chat room anymore. Ops were taken away from the whole room having them long before that happened.
I know the reason I don't post much anymore is, I feel that I don't have much in common with the youngins that are piling in. I truely believe that it's creepy that anyone over 30 would even post in the main areas on the forum as a means of making friends and the closer I get to 30, the less I want to be here.
And again, this clearly her own opinion - every line but one starts with "I ... think".CJBurgundy wrote:No I just think once you turn 30, hanging out with 15 to 20 year olds makes you a creepy loser. Most of the new people joining this forum are high school to early college. I don't think you should stop surfing the internet all together. I just think people should get some friends around their own age.
But, BionicDance comes up with a very different interpretation in response:
There are only five pages on this thread; before people get too much pleasure out of roasting someone, they should really take the time to go back and read for themselves.BionicDance wrote:Isn't that a bit limiting? THIS, incidentally, is one reason I don't post as often as I used to. When a thread gets moving, suddenly someone accuses someone of something, folks jump on a bandwagon, and it no longer matters what was actually said. It is high-school stuff - he said / she said, and just leads to drama.

Re: An observation, and a question.
I cna understand that that's the way you took Cj's posts.
However, her posts indicated that she beleived that anyone of that ages doing these things was creepy. In addition, there was the post, which while probably sarcastic, stated "Tell me what Social Disorder"the poster had. in retrospect, I can see that as a response to the feeling of being attacked. However, even in context, it came across to me as condescending and implying that anyone who hung out with those of a radically different age group had psychological issues.
I was merely trying to make clear I beleived differently. In addition, I had an argument recently about similar things, and am sensitive about the idea that society should define your actions, rather than the reverse.
If I came off as attacking Cj, I am sorry. I meant only to attack her position, as it is something I strongly disagree with.

Everyone on this forums can all go straight to hell to suck on Hitler's dingaling while wearing furry costumes and murdering kittens.
*whew* You're welcome guys. Now comes the part where you all flame me, post in a hundred threads a hundred times, the newbies see a revitalized forums and start posting, and we achieve an upward spiral again. Sadly, in the process, I will be outcast and possibly ban-hammered.
