Of course, it's not as bad as Telly's hyper-pessimistic view either, where your partner will do their utmost to make your life miserable. Sure, there are rotten people out there, but if you find a good person who legitimately cares for you presumably they're also going to do their best not to drive you insane. Of course, you do want to find someone vaguely compatible with you, for example Telly is clearly extremely independant and a very dependant person would never work for her.

Relationships are probably the most complex things in life. Let no one tell you that they're easy.

we argued about what marriage was and decided that K-dawg's input doesn't count because his wife doesn't live in the same half of the earth as the rest of us. Then MM said something about singing.

That's totally true. But it's not something that appeared in recent times. I mean, "Madame Bovary" is talking about the same problem. It probably comes from Romanticism or something.
