Archived pages broken***FIXED***

Post by Ozydius »

I solved it myself. It must be something with the Dailytemplate on cgwiki or something, I'm not sure at all really. How'd i fix it? I replaced the Dailytemplate with my Indextemplate file, uploaded it, updated, and it seems okay now.

Guh! Apparently I must be doing something wrong. Because my archive pages aren't working at all! This is what I get when I try to go to "Previous Page" and "First Page."

I don't know if it helps, but my site is http://Ozydius.comicgenesis.com/

Is anybody else getting this problem?

Set yourself up with a new dailytemplate.html file (grab the code from here) and upload it to the workspace folder (overwrite the one that is there now).

That should get your archives working.

Upload it without the exclaimation mark in the middle, right? Like this.

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0
Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html lang="en" xml:lang="en"

<link rel="alternate" title="***comic_name***" href="/rss.xml" type="application/rss+xml" />
<style type="text/css">
<!--
body {

        color:#ffffff;background-color:#000000;
	margin:0px;
	}

	//-->
</style>

</head><body>
<script language='JAVASCRIPT' type="text/javascript" src='http://forums.comicgenesis.com/cg_header.js'></script>

<div class="keen_ad" style="display:inline;">

Because the code has always been like that for the dailytemplate, and I've done nothign to change it.

Very odd, so far you seem to be the only one being affected by this.
  • What software are you using to create your html files?
  • What software are you using to upload your files?
You can grab a clean copy of the default dailytemplate.html file from here (bottom of the page). Grab that and use the built-in FTP client to upload it and see if that helps.

I use Notepad to make my HTML files and I upload them using Filezilla FTP.
I haven't deleted anything from the Public folder or my workspace, aside from comic pages which I removed without any trouble, and I didn't make mistakes in their removal.

I tinkered around a bit and changed the HTML by myself, and it's showing up a lot better than it was before. This is what shows up now, but it's still not showing the comic.

And this is the new dailytemplate I used for it. It has minor adjustments.

Anyboo, does anybody advise against my own free making of the dailytemplate? Of course i'll still include the comicgenesis dropdown thing, the advertisement, and the "Lalala is hosted on Comicgenesis, lalala, automaton something, yeah."

Sure.

making your own template is half the point of using CG. If you just wanted to use the default template, I'd have said to go use one of the other webcomic hosts as they are a lot easier to register with and use (but also more limited).

I suggest making it from scratch in NotePad. That way you know what all the code is and what is supposed to be there and what it does.

I also suggest not spending too much time on it. The site is your wall, your comic that hangs on it is what your readers come to see. And simple is always better.
