Chuck Jones said, "Everyone has 200,000 bad drawings in them, the sooner you get them out the better."

Three panels a day, six days a week, 365 days a year...okay, at that rate it would still take 30 years to get around to good drawing. But at least it's making a dent.

Also - it's a fancomic, so it has a built-in potential fanbase of all the people who like the source material. If I can build up their loyalty with this project, some of them will hopefully stick around when I do something original, giving me a head start on my path to world domination...er, I mean, making a decent living as a cartoonist. Yeah.

Wow I love that quote.
I'm going to remember that one.

Lately I've been thinking all of this over and wondering why I started myself. I don't know, honestly. I have yet to get any really good feedback (positive, negative or whatever) on my stuff, and the things I do that I like the most and think will be the bigger of my stuff turns out to be hardly noticed while the stuff I think people will least like turns out to be the biggest hit. I really don't know. I mean, I do three different comics and the one that got me started into doing this stuff is the one I focus on the most. I keep having what I consider great ideas for it and when I bring them to fruition they turn out better than I had imagined, yet I get no response from anybody.

I mention all of this because I noticed with all of it that apparently I'm doing this for the attention... for the fans that could come from it... for the entertainment value of it. I want to entertain. I have been entertained by many and I want to give back in a way. I want to be apart of the things that make me happy and give me entertainment. I guess I haven't crossed that line yet and entertained anyone, but I think I'm going to keep trying for a while.

Firstly, I have never been able to draw, and I ahold by the Chuck Jones quote. I just want to get better at drawing.

Secondly, I wnted to hve a creative outlet to break up the tedious revision/studying grind I find myself in as a university student. I didn't want to do anything serious, and my writing (as a novelist) has reached something of a slump. So doing a humourous webcomic seemed to be the best way to give my self some little amusment.

Thirdly, I got a Wacom tablet free thanks to Dysprixa, and I thought, "Well, I'd better use it." :).

And fourthly, if I can make someone laugh with my comics, I figure I've improved the world slightly.

Wow, those are some good questions! I didn't really give it much thought at the beginning, but I'm already beginning to see that it's a lot of work, and I'm only a couple weeks in...

I guess I started because I had a really great D&D session with some friends (the first time I've played, actually) and I made some comics so I could remember all the funny stuff that happened. The other guys thought they were funny, and I decided that I should make a webcomic out of them so they could all see the storyline. Also, our DM graduated last semester, and several of the other players are graduating and the end of the year, so we'll probably never do anything will all of our characters again, so going over the whole story as a webcomic makes the characters sort of "live on", in a way.

I really want to write graphic novels someday (aka manga), but I'm terrible at drawing things in panels, and layout in general, as well as working out small details of storylines, so I'm seeing this as practice in that area. Also, I have a terrible time sticking to a schedule, so we'll see how that goes. I guess my comic is just going to have a lot of filler. :|

At the moment I'm doing it just to finish up the storyline. Don't want to let any readers (if there are any left...been on hiatus for awhile) down, after all. I've seen too many storyline comics just stop suddenly, leaving the readers with a "OMGWTF! But...how does it END?!" kinda feeling.
