Re: The Philosophy Thread (Take Two)
I've heard that Anton LaVey (founder of the Satanic church) said, "the church of Satan is the best thing to happen to Christianity." or something. I'm afraid I'm taking it out of context, but basically, I took that to mean that the Satanists are creating bigger and better business (so to speak) for the Christians.

Do you guys think, at their essence, that God and Satan are physical beings?

Re: The Philosophy Thread (Take Two)
I don't really believe in Satan (at least not as "the opposite of God" anyway); mainly because I believe that every single thing (and everything in between) is, in the end, God--that we all came from God and are, essentially, atoms of God, but to answer your question anyway, yes, I believe that beings such as God and Satan are physical, because if I'm a real person and I am (as I just said) an atom of God, then obviously God is a physical being in some manner of speaking.

I don't think the traditional physical descriptions of God and the devil are real. They seem too literal. I don't see Satan as a physical being at his essence. All things Satan-y go back to the idea of fear. I can imagine God as a physical being, though. Maybe he's a being that we can't yet comprehend.

Re: The Philosophy Thread (Take Two)
can you imagine the atoms in our bodies as "living beings"? I imagine it's something similar to that regarding us and God, hence why we can't fathom the greatness of him.

Maybe atoms are beings in the sense that bacteria are beings. Therefore, they might be alive, but they lack "proper" (for lack of a better word) intelligence.

and a colony of different types of bacteria living together make something bigger than the simple bacteria cells on their own...
makes sense to me.

Do you think religion would exist if humans were immortal?

That's an awesome question. Certainly not in the way it does now, at any rate. To be honest, I'm too un-sober to really think about it now, though...I'll give it a thought later on sometime.

Re: The Philosophy Thread (Take Two)
I think it would exist.
we might give thanks to a god or goddess that bestowed that immortality upon us.
or we might hate that god or goddess for cursing us with it.
some of us might declare that we are gods because we're immortal, and demand to be worshiped by anything that isn't.
but mostly, I think we'd be a very, VERY bored species.
