Which of the following philosophers do you think is the most important?
"Leopards invade the temple and drink the wine from the chalices; this happens suddenly; in the end it was forseen that this would happen and it is incorporated into the liturgy."

If I vote for Hobbes, does that automatically include Calvin?

Actually, it's a little scary that the boy and the tiger are named after two of the most disturbing philosophers to have lived before Nietzsche.

I mean "disturbing to little old ladies" not "disturbing to a forum full of bisexual hedonists and allies".

Take a wild guess, really.

Never really dabbled into philosophy, it sounds like a un-fun way to fuck up ones mind.
The gospel preacher, the hostile teacher/The face of God with an impostor's features
This is the prophecy - the cult leader/The people's temple, the holy ground, the war compound
Four-pound to rifles, disciples, the holy idles/Supreme truth, the cult leader with the green tooth
The multi-millionaire with a stare that can freeze troops/I program people to kill
The motiviational speaker, my words cause people to feel/It's mind control, let the cult leader guide your soul
Open up your eyes to the lies he told/The general, the chief, I be the political pioneer
The cult leader, you can believe in me, I am here/Bless the children, take you under my wing, shelter
Helter Skelter, this is it, you can't kill me I'll exist forever. Cult Leader!

I was thinking in terms of how most people misinterpret what Nietzsche was actually saying, i.e. "God is dead, we should try something other than Christian morality" does not mean "I'm a nihilist, any morality is pointless." And when existentialists say "What's it all about, really, when you get right down to it?" they're honestly asking because they want to know the answer.

Do any of them believe that the universe may exist? ;)

Personally, my favorite is Zhuang Zhou.

Well, that's easy to understand! Did he write his poems using a brush, or by flapping around making information-rich patterns in the air or laying eggs on cappage leaves or something? *hides that he's holding open a copy of Thief of Time under his desk*

Also, the sound of one hand clapping is a "cl." The other hand makes the "ap."

I voted Nietzsche, but in my heart I know it'll always be Carlin.

Nietzsche is arguably the 'best' IMO, however if you want the most important, I believe Machiavelli easily takes that title. If you look at discoursi, it's pretty easy to draw parallels between it and the US constitution especially, but pretty much all of the western democracies are influenced by the fellows writing.
Even an ignorant, paranoid, cowardly, ugly, corrupt, unsociable, aristocratic thug can conquer large parts of the world, kill thousands of people and be celebrated as the saviour of the Republic.

You make a good point; Pratchett is probably the best and most important philosopher. :B I love the whole concept that "what happens when you die depends on what you believed while you were alive".

Yeah, I also like the idea that "a sin is when you treat people like things."

Though it might be fun to put it as "A sin is the opposite over the hypotenuse."

That reminds me of Lazurus Long, and by extension Heinlein...
