We are currently suspending new domain parking for the time being. This is not my decision, unfortunately, but from KeenSpot CTO Kisai. Forward all complaints and requests to Kisai for the time being.

EDIT, as of Jan 8 2009, the following domains are registered to comicgenesis, yes that's 81 (171 for keenspot), out of the 661 master list, so that's a turnover rate of almost 100 per year, this check hasn't tested to see if the comic is still available.

It's protected, but the Annoucements are handled differently. I'm PM'ing you the info.

Domain parking is canceled pending reevaluation of how it's being handled now.

- It takes 3 days to 'setup' a domain, it should take 3 minutes
- It takes 3 days to 'undo' a domain if the comic becomes abandoned.
- Of all the domains that CG hosts, about half are abandoned or were left to expire.

If/when this comes back there will be some requirements
- Established comics >30comics
- Runs specific ad setups only (non .comicgenesis.com domains are not seen as comicgenesis sites and thus ads become an issue)

Other criteria may be added. The problem is really that the oldsetup entailed too much manual work, not as much as 4 years ago, but the affordability of domains makes it too easy for people to buy a domain on a whim, upload 3 comics and then 1 year later it has has to be undone because someone has grabbed the domain and we have to scrub every reference to the site to prevent being associated or sued by the new owner.

Have the domain forwarded to your comic instead of using our DNS servers. Read above for details.

If you have email forwarded by us to you, it's best you have it redirected now. I'm looking into putting in support for third party mail systems on our park domains to help with the transition.

They do what we do, which is take care of your domains email, filter it for you, and send it to whatever email account you want (like Gmail).

To 'undo' a domain, we need to know the original comic username to look it up.

Your domain registrar should have a DNS hosting facility. I know mine (GoDaddy) has one, but also check with Hover.

Is Domain Parking same as Domain Mapping? That is- I pay for the domain name mycomic.com and I cannot have it directed at mycomic.comicgenesis.com?

You can redirect your site to a CG site (this is usually done as a CNAME in DNS mapping.) But you need the site to actually 301/302 redirect to your site for it to actually work.

The reason we don't do the domain parking anymore is because people but a domain and then abandon it after a few months. The maintenance overhead of doing this is rather high. So if we request that you redirect the domain, then it doesn't matter later if you change your mind.
