CG Wiki problems

Post by Ruthborn »

How have you managed to keep the Monobook skin for the wiki? Most other wikis have long since been updated to newer skins. This may be a source for your problems.

Also, the pages are having difficulty loading. This may be a problem with my computer but it may also be a problem with the wikia.

Also, I wish to put forward a request for admin or modship so that I may start fixing up the wiki a bit on a more larger scale. See my userpage on the wiki for my credentials.

The CGWiki has several mods and alterations on it in order to make it work with the CG system. This makes updating less practical than it would normally be. I know many wiki's don't use the defaul Monobook in order to avoid the "Wikipedia" feel, but as far as I am aware it is still the default skin that it ships with. I downloaded and installed the Mediawiki software a few months ago and it had Monobook as the default.

The problem with the pages loading might be on your end, or it might be that you were looking at it during heavy usage times. I just had a look and all the pages loaded quickly and error free for me. I looked at about a dozen pages.

Feel free to make (almost) any changes that you feel would appropriate and beneficial to the CGWiki. Changes you shouldn't make include but are not limited to:
  • Deleting pages.
  • Major re-structuring.
  • Creating new categories that won't be applicable to wide base (so the category "Alabama" would be okay because lots of people might want to have the "Alabama" category, whereas the name of a character in your comic would not be useful to many people if it was a category).
  • Generally spamming the wiki.
Activities that you can feel free to engage in (and are somewhat encouraged) would include (but not limited to):
  • Correcting spelling mistakes (keeping in mind international conventions: color is right and colour is also right).
  • Adding (accurate) information to other webcomics' pages.
  • Cleaning up pages.
  • Creating pages for comics that have a good, current run but do not yet have a CGWiki page (abandoned comics or comics with only two comics up probably don't need their own page (yet)).
  • Any beneficial changes that are in keeping with the ideal of the CGWiki.
As far as I'm aware, there are only three or four mod / admins for the CGwiki as it's a member-only wiki (so there is less wilful damage) and they normally invite someone to help them when they can see the user done good work and one of the current members is unable / unwilling to continue (such as being ill or going on holidays).

Could you list the admin/mods please. It will save time instead of me searching through the wiki for them and, if its within your power, could you unprotect the media.css pages.

Sorry, I don't have the power to unprotect the media.css page(s).

The Sysops for the CGWiki are Kisai ‎(Bureaucrat, Sysop), Mercury Hat ‎(Bureaucrat, Sysop), Phalanx ‎(Sysop), STrRedWolf ‎(Sysop) and Toxic ‎(Bureaucrat, Sysop). STrRedWolf and Kisai are the site admins, Phalanx and Toxic don't post on the forums too much which leaves Mercury Hat as the "go to" person for all things CGWiki related.

As far as I'm concerned, Merc does a bang-up job and I haven't heard any requests for assistance, but you are welcome to offer.

Note that it's most likely that you'll need to be around the wiki/forums helping out and such for at least several months before you'd be considered for a position - at least that's what I'd assume since a new, unknown person is less likely to be given powers...
