Name this Cat

Post by Halo299 »

ok, about a week ago we found a very sick kitten laying in our parking lot. He was on death's door and almost did not survive the trip to the emergency vet in the next town over. But he did and is doing much better now and it looks like we are going to keep him. Now he just needs a name. Because calling him Kitten all the time is getting old.

so, good people of the forum, what should we name this cat?

Lulu has already been suggested.

Hard to choose a name for a pet until you know its personality, but his face makes me think of "Richard" from "Looking for Group."

I like "Richard", both because the character is made of win and because, regardless of that character, it's just a good name.

My suggestion of "Lazarus" still stands as well, though.

yeah, we really haven't seen a lot of his personality yet because for the first few days all he did was lay around and try not to die. and after he recovered he is really not interested in much besides trying to play with our other cats (who are easily 5 times his size).

Oh, the cast is off his leg too, so if it weren't for all the shaved spots on him where the vet had to shave him he would look normal.

Something about his face in the 3rd pic makes me think of Akiro from Conan the Barbarian...

So either Akiro or Mako would work for me, but that's based solely on the face.

I generally dislike naming pets "Lucky", but it seems to apply in this case. Felix and Faustus are both names that essentially mean luck or good fortune, if you think that would be appropriate.
... and exactly how important is "the ability to scream in three languages" for this job?

I wanted to name our cat Lucifer, but my little brother objected.

My friend wanted to name his cat Cthulhu, but his wife objected.

Either one works for me.
The gospel preacher, the hostile teacher/The face of God with an impostor's features
This is the prophecy - the cult leader/The people's temple, the holy ground, the war compound
Four-pound to rifles, disciples, the holy idles/Supreme truth, the cult leader with the green tooth
The multi-millionaire with a stare that can freeze troops/I program people to kill
The motiviational speaker, my words cause people to feel/It's mind control, let the cult leader guide your soul
Open up your eyes to the lies he told/The general, the chief, I be the political pioneer
The cult leader, you can believe in me, I am here/Bless the children, take you under my wing, shelter
Helter Skelter, this is it, you can't kill me I'll exist forever. Cult Leader!

Classical names:

Akhenaten
Gaius Caligula
Catiline
Catullus
The Catamite
Ashurbanipal'
Gilgamesh
Enkidu
Fastitocalon (no name for a cat, but still a great name)
Nabugodonosor

Political figures:

Robespierre
J. Edgar Hoover
Spinoza
Leo Strauss
Isiah Berlin
Edmund Burke
Thatcher
Pol Pot
Foucault

Totally Inappropriate:

Princess Di
Matthew Shepherd
Terri Schiavo
Schapelle Corby (Yes, I know it's a male, but be a sadist for once!)

Authors:

(call him Amis Updike; it sounds rude.)

Characters from Dickens: Krook, Skimpole, Tiny Tim, Snaggsby, Fagan, Bumble...
Characters from Shakespeare: Iago, Othello, Polonius, Hamlet, Puck (please no).
Characters from Joyce: Poldy, Buck Mulligan, Dedalus...
Characters from Nabokov: Humbert Humbert, good name for a cat
Characters from Flaubert: Monsieur Homais, Bouvard, Pecuchet
from Victor Hugo: Thenardier, Gavroche

names of obscure authors:

Bertrans de Born
Paul de Kock
Leigh Hunt
George Sand
Lamartine
Moishe Ben Maimon
Salvatore Quasimodo (yes, his real name)
Daniil Ivanovich Kharms

good selection here, go with the Catamite, my preferred choice.
