Sure their sense of style may lean toward the pointy side, but that is no reason to assume they live in a dystopia. Why to them our boxy buildings and utilitarian construction tools may seem ridged and boring.

Those buildings look like claws, the whole town is in dirt-gray tones except for a few coloured lights in the corner, and heavy clouds in the sky just add to the threatening impression. Maybe there's nothing objective to tell that it's a dystopian city, but the whole atmosphere is doing that job good enough.
