Hey there help gurus. I just have a question thats bugging me.
I've been hosting graphics on my comics server, and for some reason only some of them will show up when used as, for example, a signature. I've been through as many possible reasons for this anomaly as possible. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with file name characters or length, size of file etc, its as if the server is just randomly choosing files it doesn't want to host.
For example, the filepath
http://lsbh.comicgenesis.com/images/plantav.jpg
...will load up in a browser window fine.
But the filepath
http://lsbh.comicgenesis.com/images/myspadd.jpg
...loads as a 1x1 pxl white dot.
Its only certain files that won't load, and I can't find a pattern.
It isn't a huge problem, as everything for my site will load its just random other files, and I can get around it by using Photobucket, its just annoying me that I can't work out why.
Any thoughts?...I can see it being something simple that I'll slap my forehead and go "GAH!" about...

Re: Just a Question
The comicgenesis server is meant to protect against hotlinking, so if you want to use an image as a signature you'll need an account on a sharing server such as Photobuket or RipWay.
Re: Just a Question
That might explain it, but its still weird that some images work fine and others don't. If none did I'd understand it, its just confusing. Meh I'll just use Photobucket. Thanks mate.

Re: Just a Question
Sometimes it takes a while for the server to recognize and show new images as well. Especially in heavy update hours or when you have uploaded a lot of new material in a relatively short amount of time. Usually within a day or so its all worked out. Also, there are some cases when the ftp server can mess up the transfer.
I ran into that problem some in the past, and what I did was just upload it again and run a regular/full update. But even once the images show up on your site, you won't be able to hotlink into profile pics, myspace comments, etc...

Re: Just a Question
Yeah I tried that aswell, the deleting from the FTP server, re-uploading and triggering a regular update, before I posted in here thinking that might have been the issue. Glad to see that the ideas I had to 'fix' it weren't just my mind throwing me curveballs at 4am lol. Thanks for the tips dude.
