I've realized that a lot of the things I like often don't get embraced by the masses.

To me, Spider Man 3 was such a mess already by that point that the introduction of Emo Parker couldn't hurt the movie further. It just made me laugh with stupid joy.

It made me squirm uncomfortably in my seat. I was embarrassed for both of us.

I had the luxury of seeing that at home and had already heard from many people that it was an awful movie. If I had seen it in a theater expecting the same level that Spider Man 2 delivered, the I would've thought differently I imagine.

Yeah, what do they know? I'd actually enjoy it if more people liked the things I like, but it just doesn't seem to work that way.

That whole movie as a whole makes me feel bad. So many letdowns this past summer.

It never even came close to our city, which is really weird, because we have a decent art scene...

I saw it at WALMART the other day. Not sure how to feel about that.

I'm surprised they'd carry something like that. Unless they just saw it was a cartoon and put it in the kids' section.

On a related note, I wonder if Disney knew about the existence of Pom Poko before they signed on to distribute and translate Miyazaki's movies.

Paprika sounds interesting. I'll have to find it. Which won't be easy since my choices are Blockbuster and Blockbuster.

I thought Bear vs. Shark was really good. It's a love story with social misfits as the main stars. It's painful at times, but the pain comes from recognition of past mistakes.

I also The Kingdom, which is really good for an action flick. It's a slow burn that has a cathartic release of violence rather then the regular bag 'em and tag 'em action mentality. It has a similar feel to Heat, another of Micheal Mann's movies.

Hancock's a surprisingly enjoyable film. The trailers really only show half the film, but that's because it would give too much away. Thus, the trailers end up making it look like a different kind of film than it is. I found it a good summer movie; taking a turn for the better compared to what the trailers suggested.

Hancock does look interesting. Someone was saying there might be an X-Man connection in the movie.

A couple of films I've seen in the last month or so: Redbelt, Priceless.

Redbelt by David Mamet is a great movie. It's the anti-kung-fu kung-fu movie. It focuses on applying the teachings of Jujitsu, a martial art. Lots suspense, lots of tension, but not much fighting. This isn't a modern Blood Sport; it's the opposite of it. It gets kind of silly at the very end, but the rest of the film is worth it.

Priceless is a French romantic comedy. It's light and fun with a interesting story. It's still a romantic comedy, but it's much more believable then other ones. I would rate it as a good date movie. She'll like it, and you won't want to end your life to stop the pain.

I got to see Paprika, and it's very original. I was very impressed. I do feel like it has two endings though with the second one being tacked on. An epilogue would have been great, but they made it one big movie.

I enjoy Mamet, but I couldn't bring myself to believe in him doing a kung-fu flick. Maybe I'll get over it.

Kinda wanna see Priceless. I've been a fan of Audrey Tatou since Amelie, but then, who hasn't?

I barely knew then what was going on in Paprika, so now I couldn't even tell you. Restraint, though, is not a chief attribute of that film, you're right.

Actually, I didn't pay enough attention to Paprika to have an informed opinion, but I can tell you that it is very much in Kon's style of things. See Perfect Blue and Millenium Actress for reference. Also Tokyo Godfathers (which is really amazingly good).
DO NOT however watch Perfect Blue immediately after finishing Serial Experiments Lain. That will make the brain hurting.

Saw about 75% of the new Hairspray last night in a city park. Not as soul-crushing as I expected, cute, if you're into that kinda thing.

It made me a little nervous hearing the word "Negro Day" thrown around so much with all those kids around.
